Dehumidifier Garment

This document discusses humidity control for preventing mold growth. It states that the recommended relative humidity (RH) to prevent mold is 30-35%, which is lower than the 50% RH recommended by ASHRAE for human comfort. Refrigerant dehumidifiers are best for homes but not suitable for industrial use, as they cannot reduce RH below 60%. The document then provides examples of how moisture can cause corrosion and degradation of organic materials like garments, books, and food. It outlines some common myths and truths regarding humidity control and mold prevention. Finally, it discusses humidity control solutions for various parts of the garment production process, including dry rooms, packing areas, and warehouses.

What Should be the RH to Prevent Mold Growth?
…thanks to you

According to ASHRAE (62.1-2013)

4.3.2.3 Indoor Design Humidity with Dehumidification without Air-
Conditioning.
If the building is designed to be dehumidified with humidity-controlled
dehumidification equipment, and cooling equipment is not present or not
operating, the indoor design humidity shall be the humidity control
setting, or the humidity calculated with Equation 4-1, whichever is lower.
If no humidity control setting is specified, the control setting shall be 50%
RH.

BUT, THIS VALUE IS FOR HUMAN COMFORT, NOT

FOR PRODUCT DRYING/MOLD PREVENTION

RH Should be 30-35% to Prevent Mold Growth

Refrigerant / Portable Dehumidification …thanks to you

In refrigerant dehumidification, the air is brought in contact with a cooling coil which
absorbs moisture from the air. Later the whole air pass through a heater so that by
increasing volume of air we can reduce some additional % of RH. Best for home
solution, Worst for industrial application as it can’t reduce RH below 60%.
Rather power consumption is very high due to compressor and heater (used
for whole air volume).

Myth Truth
 Portable Dehumidifier can be  It’s better for home use, not for
used to prevent Mold Growth. industrial application.
 Using AC Mold Problem can  AC can achieve upto 65% RH
be solved. which is not enough.
 Garment should hold for whole  It takes 1-2 hr depending on
day in Dry Room. the climate and product.
 In Dry Room for increased  If it withstands in ironing it can
temp. fabric fades up. withstand at Dry Room also.
 Dry Room construction should  It can be done by
be by Sandwitch Panel. Glass/Brick/Plywood etc.
 Only Dry Room is enough to  Dry Room, CT-PAT,
Prevent Mold Formation. Warehouse also need it.
 It’s a much costly machine  Don’t Compare it with Portable
Solution (Step-1: Set up DRY ROOM)
 Establish Dehumidifier in Dry
Room
 Maintain RH = 30-35%
 Temp. Ambient, No AC
 Process: Batch-Wise
 Restrict Door Opening Per
Hour
 Product: Keep Hanging or
use perforated rack
 Hold Product for 1-2 hr
 Check and Take Out if OK
Solution (Step-2: CT-PAT / Packing)
 Establish Dehumidifier in CT-
PAT/Packing
 Maintain RH = 35-40%
 Temp: 28-30 ºC, by AC
 Process: Continuous
 Restrict Door Opening Per
Hour
 Room Construction:
Glass/10” Brick Wall
 Insert the product inside the
Poly as soon as possible
 Seal the Cartoon by Gum
Tape properly
Solution (Step-3: Finished Goods Warehouse)
 Establish Dehumidifier in
Finished Goods Warehouse
 Maintain RH = 40-45%
 Temp: 28-30 ºC, by AC
 Process: Continuous
 Restrict Door Opening Per

 Maintain Housekeeping
 Check Mold/Dampness in
Structure of Rack
Solution (Step-4: Cartoon Storage)

 Door size
 Door opening per hour
 No of Manpower (if any)
 Room Construction Material
 Infiltration Air Quantity
