CDMA Metro Cell with Carrier Growth Solutions
Carrier Growth Flexibility / Modular Design
• 6 carrier, 3 sectored capacity • BTS supports 800 & 1900 MHz
• Maintains 2 cabinet / rack, 2 simultaneously.
antenna architecture • Dynamic deployment of RF power
• Graceful 1 - 6 carrier growth • Pay as you grow pricing structure
enabled through CFDS
• Interchange or co-deploy FRMs &
3G Compatible MFRMs
• BTS supports 1xRTT • Simultaneous IS95 & 1xRTT
• RF modules are 3xRTT ready operation*

Reduced Cost of Ownership

Remote 2nd & 3rd carrier deployment Reduces site visits
Efficient power utilization Reduces utility expenses
Soft fail MCPA redundancy Reduces risk of cell outage
* Upon deployment of 3G Data and Capacity Solutions

Carrier Growth Solutions - 3

Main Advancements to the CDMA Metro Cell
• New Multi-carrier Flexible Radio Module (MFRM)
– Each radio delivers 3 adjacent carrier sectors per
module.
– MFRM delivers equivalent capacity / coverage to 3 MTRM
FRMs
– Incorporates sophisticated patented technology
– Similar architecture and physical dimensions to FRM
and full backwards compatibility with installed base
• New Dual Mode Channel Element Module (xCEM) MPAM
– xCEM to manage 1xRTT and IS-95 standards
simultaneously
– Delivered with 3G Data & Capacity Solutions Project
– CEM capacity increases: 32 and 64 channel element
versions
– Identical physical dimensions to IS-95 CEM and full MFRM introduces a new
wideband transmit module
backwards compatibility with installed base
(MTRM) and power amplifier
(MPAM)

New Actions for NBSS10.1

Carrier Growth Solutions - 23

TxPowerDistributionArray

• This BSSM action window

illustrates the data fields
that are used to make up
the new RadioSector MO
attribute
TxPowerDistribution
– This attribute consists of arrays of
carrier Tx power entries for each of
the carriers
– All three arrays would be used to
configure an MFRM for three carriers
and would require two CFDS carrier
licenses to implement

Carrier Growth Solutions - 24

Receive Power Balancing
Enhancements
• NBSS10.1 has incorporated some new datafill
attributes and a new action to help improve the
control and execution of the receive power
balancing algorithm
– “RxAutoCalibrationEnabled” provides an on/off control of
the algorithm regardless of the “DPMRxConfig” setting
– “CarrierRxPowerDifferenceThreshold” and
“CarrierRxPowerDiffAlarmTimeThreshold” allow the user
to set the level and duration of signal difference between
receive paths before generating an alarm
– The “RestartRxCalibration” action also allows the user to
execute the algorithm without having to re-initialize the site

Carrier Growth Solutions - 25

What is CFDS?
 The Basic Principle:
 Customer purchases what they need for their CDMA network.
(NBSS 10.1, xCEM’s, & MFRM’s)
 Nortel Networks over-provisions the customer with embedded
hardware and software functionality upon initial purchase.
 As capacity/functionality are required, CFDS enables the
functionality through the use of electronic key codes.
 Customer pays for what they need, when they need it and is in the
best position to deliver a responsive solution to meet market
needs.
