Automation Presentation

The document describes an intelligent robot vision system that uses computer vision and artificial intelligence. It includes sensing capabilities, programming in Lisp, and intelligence for planning tasks. A camera is used as an input device to allow the robot controller to "see". The vision software analyzes the digital images for tasks like recognition, inspection, and detecting features. The overall system demonstrates an ability to recognize, locate, and acquire randomly oriented parts through computer vision and following object level instructions.

INTRODUCTION

Intelligent system which are programmable,

physically flexible, and aware of their
environment. Flexible manufacturing system
(FMS) are able to work through unexpected
variations while compliting the specified task.

As we know this AI system is an intelligent

system that we can teach to do things according
to the surroundings area. For example, we can
teach this system to detect the defect as well as
reaction to something.

INTELLIGENCE
SENSING,PROGRAMMING & INTELLIGENCE
The work presented in this paper represents an effort to advance three major areas within the field of robotics in industrial
applications: sensing, programming, and intelligence.

SENSING
It is commonly believed that sensing will play an important role in future robot
systems. The impact of sensing research will be felt in the areas of adaptive control
and inspection. However, sensing has yet to become a major component of most robot
systems.

PROGRAMMING
A number of robot control languages have been developed in several categories.
1. Some languages are developed with robot control contructs high priority.
2. Extends a current general language with robot control functions.
3. General purpose language which happens to contain the necessary constructs for
robot control.

INTELLIGENCE
AI can immediately serve intelligent robot systems in the area of planning. The
advantage of having a planning capability is that instructions to the robot are placed on the
object level. Clearly assembly tasks may be programmed more easily with object level
constructs.
3 GENERAL
SYSTEM
DESCRIPTION
GENERAL SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
 As manufacturing technology matures, advances
are expected to occur in sensing capabilities and
system intelligence. A solid-state (CD) camera is
used as an input device allowing the robot
controller to 'see' parts of the workspace.

 The Lisp programming language has been a

prominent selection for programs dealing with AI
problems. Therefore Lisp is used as the
uppermost level of the system whose subordinate
processes include the vision software and the
robot control software.

 The camera is commonly placed on the end

effector of the Puma 560 robot arm. The digital
image is routed to the Grinnell Systems 275 image
processor for storage and preprocessing. The LSI-
11 controller directs the motion of each joint
individually through dedicated microprocessors. Its
motion requests are obtained the VAX.
4 VISION
SOFTWARE
VISION SOFTWARE
 The figure shows a complete vision software system enabling
the computer to use the camera as an ‘eye’ for the robot and as
an inspection tool.
 Part (c) depicts the division of labor required for recognition. This
preprocessing may include filtering to enhance or restore the
image. The choice processing real image data was made to
control the environment and reduce segmentation difficulties and
concentrate on the recognition algorithms.
 Part (b depicts the division of labor required for inspection. This
block requires a hint as to where it should look when performing
its inspection unless the object is always placed in the same
place within the field of view.
 Part (a) shows a block which simply computes a feature
dependent on every pixel in the image. This block may be called
upon first when the computer asks the robot to look somewhere
for something. If the variance is too small, there is a good
chance that there isn’t anything of interest in the field of view.
