ASSERTIVE BEHAVIOR
• Assertiveness is a skill regularly referred to in
social and communication skills training.
• Being assertive means being able to stand up
for your own or other people's rights in a calm
and positive way, without being either
aggressive, or passively accepting 'wrong'.
• Assertive individuals are able to get there
point across without upsetting others, or
becoming upset themselves.

• Assertive behavior is the perfect balance
between aggressive behavior and passive
behavior.
• It means standing up for your personal rights –
expressing thoughts, feelings and beliefs in
direct, honest and appropriate ways.
• It leads to peace, respect and co-operation.
Behaving assertively means to advocate for
respectful behavior, but in a determined way,
acknowledging the feelings and rights of others.
Definition:-
Assertive behaviour is a behaviour which
enables a person to act in his own best
interest, to stand up for himself without
undue anxiety, to express his honest feeling
comfortably, or to exercise his own rights
without denying the rights of others.

Characteristics of assertive people
• Feels free to express feelings, thoughts and
desires.
• Able to initiate and maintain comfortable
relationship with other people.
• Thinks and behaves in a way that coincide
with their rights, often able to achieve goal.
• Have ability to control anger and talk in a
reasonable manner.
