The signals to indicate distress and needs
assistance are:
Under the GMDSS, activation of distress signals are simplified.
Distress signals may be activated by pushing a button or key
on any of these equipment.
Deck hands when cleaning the bridge, care must be exercised
not to accidentally trigger these buttons or INMARSAT keys.
Once the signal is triggered, it will set the Coast Earth Station
which will then alert all other stations.
The first thing to do in case the alarm was set off accidentally, is
to call the master or duty officer.
To cancel the alert signal a message must be sent to the CES
cancelling the message
