Garbage crisis refers to the growing problem of waste management around the world. The world generates over 2 billion tons of municipal solid waste per year, and that amount is expected to increase by 70% over the next 30 years. Pakistan generates around 49.6 million tons of solid waste annually, which has been increasing more than 2.4% each year. Pakistan struggles with waste management infrastructure, and much of its solid waste does not reach proper disposal sites.

What is Garbage crisis?
Garbage, trash, rubbish, or refuse is waste material that is discarded by humans, usually due to
a perceived lack of utility.

A crisis is either any event or period that will lead to an unstable and dangerous situation
affecting an individual, group, or all of society.

The threat posed by poor waste management is particularly prominent in low-income countries
where waste-collection rates are often below 50 percent.
WHAT'S IN THE GLOBAL GARBAGE CAN?

Mostly food and paper called as Organic trash, food we eat, food animals eat, horticultural
waste that makes up about half of global solid waste, and paper and plastic add another
27%.
Tons of waste are produced in the world
every day, mostly due to the rapid
urbanization and consumption rate.
According to World Bank data, annual waste
has increased to 4.5 trillion pounds.

According to the World Bank’s What a


Waste 2.0 report, the world generates 2.01
billion tonnes of municipal solid waste
annually.
