Reproduction in Rabbit (Final)

The document discusses the male and female reproductive systems of rabbits. The male system includes testes that produce sperm and ducts that transport sperm. The female system includes ovaries that produce eggs and fallopian tubes and a uterus where fertilization and development occur. Upon fertilization, the zygote develops into an embryo over 30-32 days and is born.

Reproduction in Rabbit
Male Reproductive System: Consists of
• A pair of testes…. .. Produce sperms
• The associated ducts……transport sperms to external genitalia
• Glands…… add secretions to sperms

Structure of testes:
• Located in scrotum (a bag of skin that hangs below the body) Rabbits reingest their own
• A mass of coiled tubules called seminiferous tubules pellet-like faeces to digest their
• Seminiferous tubules produce sperms food further and extract
sufficient nutrients.

glands
SEMEN:
• Material containing sperms in a fluid
• Consists of 10% sperms & 90% fluid

SEMINAL VESICLES:
• Produce secretions that provide nutrients to
sperms

PROSTATE GLAND:
• Produces a secretion that neutralizes the
acidity of fluid

COWPER’S GLAND:
• Produce secretions that lubricate the ducts

Female Reproductive System: Consists of
• A pair of Ovaries……
• small oval organs situated in abdominal cavity, ventral to the kidneys
• Outer region of ovary produces egg cells
• A cluster of specialized cells called follicle surrounds & nourishes each egg cell
• From ovaries, egg cells are released in Fallopian tubes
• The associated ducts
