SELF-CONCEPT

What is self-Concept?

A person's thoughts, opinions, or perceptions about

themselves are collectively referred to as their self-
concept.

Having an idea of oneself is known as awareness of

oneself.
After you have picked your object, start thinking
about adjectives that you would use to describe
yourself based on the object.
Object: Diamond

Practical:
Dynamic:
Strong:
With these adjectives in mind, think about when you started
seeing yourself this way. What situations reinforce your self-
concept?
Any situation in which I can perform well and prove myself in accordance with my self-concepts like

Dynamic: Any sudden change in life so that I can prove myself as a dynamic by adjusting myself
with respect to change.

Strong: Any challenging thing that must be hard to do, to prove myself as a strong person.

Practical: Any opportunity to utilize my thoughts and change them into quick actions consistently to
prove myself as a practical person.
What situations work against this self-concept?
If I don’t adjust myself with respect to changes in my life
if I don’t accept challenges in my life
If I do not avail opportunities in my life
Who do you think of when you think of yourself in this
way?

I think of my uncle, he is a businessman and is a very goal-

oriented person who always tries to handle any difficult
situation effectively. He always seeks an opportunity to
utilize his expertise, gain knowledge and get experience
from that. He is always ready to face challenges and
become a more strong person.
What is important to your self-concept?

Self-esteem is very important for me to have a self-concept

How has your self-concept been influenced by social
comparison?
Social comparison impact our self-concepts positively as well as negatively When we are able to
compare ourselves favorably with others, we feel good about ourselves, but when the outcome of
comparison suggests that others are better or better off than we are, then our self-esteem is likely
to suffer
I always try to make this social comparison positive by focusing only on positive things, trying
to limit negative outcomes, learn from others in a positive manner so that I can maintain my self-
concept and also improve my life.
What reference groups are important to you?

Reference group of my field of

profession.
How has your self-concept been influenced by reflected
appraisal?

It was not always a positive influence because you can’t be the person of
everyone’s choice. Some may like you, some are inspired by you, some
might don’t like you, and for some people you are nothing.
Reflected appraisal has a huge impact on self-concept so I always try to
focus on only those that are positive so that I can strengthen my self-
concept and become the person I want to be.
What are some ways in which you manage others’
impressions of you?

Self-awareness
confirmative behavior
Social interaction
effective listeners
emotional restraint
Be Positive
What are the benefits of effective impression
management?

Although it is practically difficult to influence

another person's view, impression management
allows us to express ourselves in a fashion that
would be much more likely to yield a
favorable response from others.
Improve reputation
People likely know more about you
How do you manage impressions online?

I’ll manage impressions online through my social

media accounts like Facebook, Instagram,
LinkedIn, Twitter, etc., where I’ll post my positive
thoughts, interact with others in a positive way,
promote others’ work by sharing posts, and
encourage hard workers.
