JANANI SURAKSHA YOJANA

 Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) is a safe motherhood intervention under the National
Health Mission

 The yojana was launched on 12th April 2005, by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, is
being implemented in all states and UTs with special focus on low performing
states.

 JSY is a 100 % centrally sponsored scheme and it integrates cash assistance with
delivery and post-delivery care.
Objective of JSY:

To reduce maternal and neonatal mortality by promoting institutional


delivery among the poor pregnant women.
 The yojana has identified ASHA, as an effective link between the Government
and the poor pregnant women in l0 low performing states

 Each beneficiary registered under this yojana should have a JSY card along with
a MCH card. ASHA/AWW/ any other identified link worker under the overall
supervision of the ANM and the MO, PHC should mandatorily prepare a micro-
birth plan.
The eligibility for cash assistance

   

LPS All pregnant women delivering in government health centres, such as Sub
Centers (SCs)/Primary Health Centers (PHCs)/Community Health Centers
(CHCs)/First Referral Units (FRUs)/general wards of district or state hospitals

HPS All BPL/Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) women delivering in a


government health centre, such as SC/PHC/CHC/FRU/general wards of district
or state hospital

LPS & HPS BPL/SC/ST women in accredited private institutions

JANANI SHISHU SURAKSHA KARYAKARAM (JSSK)

 Government of India has launched Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram (JSSK)


on 1st June, 2011.

 It invokes a new approach to healthcare, utmost emphasis on entitlements and


elimination of out-of-pocket expenses for both pregnant women and sick
neonates.

 The initiative entitles all pregnant women delivering in public health institutions
to absolutely free and no-expense delivery, including caesarean section.
 It stipulates out that all expenses related to delivery in a public institution would
be borne entirely by the government and no user charges would be levied.

 Under this initiative, a pregnant woman would be entitled to free transport from
home to the government health facility, between facilities, in case she is referred
on account of complications, and also drop-back home after 48 hours of
delivery.
 Other Entitlements would include

-free drugs and consumables

-free diagnostics

-free blood wherever required

-free diet for the duration of a woman's stay in the facility, expected to be three
days in case of a normal delivery and seven in case of a caesarean section.

-exemption from all kinds of User Charges


 The initiative is estimated to benefit more than 1 crore pregnant women &
newborns

 This initiative supplements the cash assistance given to a pregnant woman


under JSY and is aimed at mitigating the burden of out of pocket expenses
incurred by pregnant women and sick newborns.
Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme (MRMBS)

 The maternity benefit scheme in Tamilnadu was launched in the year 1987 with the aim
to reduce IMR and MMR
 National maternity benefit scheme was renamed as “Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy
Maternity Benefit Scheme”
 General eligibility criteria:
1. Pregnant mother should be of age 19 years and above.
2. VHN/UHN should certify the economic status in picme.
3. Mothers delivered at private medical college approved under Dr.MRMBS
4. Scheme are also eligible after ensuing the provision of free delivery
5. Services including caesarean deliveries.
6. Srilankan refugees- pregnant women are eligible.

7. The pregnant women who are members of farmers social security scheme are
also eligible to get this cash assistance

8.only for two deliveries maternity assistance is provided.

9.However certain conditionalities, HOB mothers are eligible for first and Fifth
instalments and also for two nutrition kits.

10.Migrant mothers in brick kilns, quarries, road works, construction sites and other
infrastructure development projects are also eligible.

11.migrant workers from other states are eligible for 1st and 5th Instalments and
nutrition kits only.

dose of OPV/Rota/Pentavalent and 2nd dose of IPV.

V Instalment For those received 4th instalment and after completion of Rs. 2,000/
Measles Rubella vaccination between 9th and 12th month of
their infants.

TOTAL RS.18,000/-
Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana
The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana was announced in the Prime minister’s address to the nation on 31st
December 2016 to benefit pregnant women and lactating mothers.

Effective Date 1st January 2017

Eligibility Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers (PW&LM) for first live child in family

Benefits ₹5,000 Payable in Three Instalments.

Implementing Platform Integrated Child Development Services /Health Infrastructure

•Department of Women and Child Development or Department of Social Welfare of the respective
State/UT except for seven states/UT.
Implementing Departments •Department of Health or Department of Health and Family Welfare will administer the scheme in
the states of Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadar & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, Meghalaya, Tamil
Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal

Pradhan mantri surakshit matritva abhiyan

 Launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

 Aims to provide assured, comprehensive and quality antenatal care, free of cost, universally to all
pregnant women on the 9th of every month.

 PMSMA guarantees a minimum package of antenatal care services to women in their 2nd / 3rd
trimesters of pregnancy at designated government health facilities
goal

 PMSMA envisages to improve the quality and coverage of antenatal care


including diagnostics and counselling services as part of the Reproductive
Maternal Neonatal Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCH+A) strategy
objectives
 ensure at least one antenatal checkup for all pregnant women in their 2nd or 3rd
trimester by a physician/specialist
 improve the quality of care during ante-natal visits. this includes ensuring
provision of the following services:
- all applicable diagnostic services
- screening for the applicable clinical conditions
- appropriate management of any existing clinical condition such
as anemia, pregnancy induced hypertension, gestational diabetes etc.
- appropriate counselling services and proper documentation of
services.
 Identification and line listing of high risk pregnancies based on
obstetrics/medical history
 Appropriate birth planning and complication readiness
 Special emphasis on early diagnosis , adequate and appropriate management of
women with malnutrition
 Special focus on adolescent and early pregnancies.
KEY FEATURES
 PMSMA is based on the premise — that if every pregnant woman in India is
examined by a physician and appropriately investigated at least once and then
followed up — the process can result in reduction in the number of maternal
and neonatal deaths in our country.

 Antenatal checkup services would be provided by obgy specialists /


radiologist/physicians with support from private sector doctors to supplement
the efforts of the government sector.
 A minimum package of antenatal care services (including investigations
and drugs) would be provided to the beneficiaries on the 9th day of every
month at identified public health facilities in both urban and rural areas in
addition to the routine anc at the health facility.

 OBGY specialists/ radiologist/physicians from private sector are encouraged


to provide voluntary services at public health facilities where government
sector practitioners are not available or inadequate
 Pregnant women are given mother and child protection cards and safe
motherhood booklets.
 A sticker indicating the condition and risk factor of the pregnant women would
be added onto MCP card for each visit:
Green sticker- for women with no risk factor detected
Red sticker – for women with high risk pregnancy
 A national portal for PMSMA and a mobile application have been developed
to facilitate the engagement of private/ voluntary sector.

 ‘Ipledgefor9’ achievers awards are given to celebrate individual and team


achievements and acknowledge voluntary contributions for PMSMA in states
and districts across India.

 Launched on October 10 , 2019


 Aim:
 To provide assured , dignified, respectful and quality health care at no cost
 Zero tolerance for denial of services for every women and newborn visiting the public
health care facility
 Outcome:
 Zero preventable maternal and neonatal death
 High quality of maternity care
Vandemataram scheme

 Voluntary scheme – obstetric gynaec specialist, maternity homes, nursing


home , MBBS doctor can volunteer themselves for providing safe motherhood
services
 “ Vandemataram logo” will be displayed at their clinic
 IFA tablets , oral pills , Inj.TT – free distribution to the beneficiaries
