INTRODUCTION
• This mobile phone detector can sense the presence of an activated mobile
phone from a distance of four to five metres.
• So it can come handy in an examination hall or meetings where mobile
phones are not permitted.
• The circuit can detect incoming and outgoing calls, SMSes, Internet and
video transmissions even if a mobile phone is kept in silent mode.
• When it detects an RF signal from an activated mobile phone, its LED
starts blinking and continues to blink until the signal stops.
THEORY
• Cell Phone Detector is a circuit that can sense the presence of any
activated cell-phone nearby and gives an indication of activated cell-
phone near around of it.
• Cell-phone detector is a Frequency Detector or a Current to Voltage
Converter Circuit which catches frequencies about 0.9 - 3.0GHz (Mobile
band frequencies).
• It can detect the RF Transmission from the Mobile Phone and triggers
Buzzer to produce beep sound, even if the phone is kept on Silent mode
and this alarm continues beeping till the presence of RF signals.
• This circuit is very useful to detect Cell-phones at Cell-phone restricted
places like Exam halls, meeting rooms, hospitals etc.

COMPONENTS DESCRIPTION
CA3130 OP-AMP MOSFET Input BiMOS OP-AMP IC CA3130 is a
BiMOS operational amplifier IC with MOSFET Input and BiMOS
devices have advantages of both bipolar and CMOS transistors. Bipolar
transistors can perform fast switching and perform well under high
bandwidths. On the other hand, CMOS op-amps consume less current.
LED or Light Emitting Diode is a light source device. It releases light when
current passes through it. The LED concept is based on a semiconductor
device where holes and electrons recombine to produce energy in the form of
photons.
• The moment the bug detects RF transmission signal from an activated mobile
phone, it starts sounding a beep alarm and the LED blinks. The alarm continues
until the signal transmission ceases.
• An ordinary RF detector using tuned LC circuits is not suitable for detecting
signals in the GHz frequency band used in mobile phones.
• The transmission frequency of mobile phones ranges from 0.9 to 3 GHz with a
wavelength of 3.3 to 10 cm. So a circuit detecting gigahertz signals is required
for a mobile bug.
• The lead length of the capacitor is fixed as 18 mm with a spacing of 8 mm
between the leads to get the desired frequency.
• The disk capacitor along with the leads acts as a small gigahertz loop antenna to
collect the RF signals from the mobile phone.
• When mobile phone is active, it transmits the signal in the form of sine
wave which passes through the space. The encoded audio/video signal
contains electromagnetic radiation which is picked up by the receiver in
the base station.
• The transmitter power of the modern 2G antenna in the base station is
20-100 watts.
• The mobile phone transmits short signals at regular intervals to register
its availability to the nearest base station. Distance to cellular base station
is the most important environmental factor.
• The circuit uses a 0.22μF disk capacitor to capture the RF signals from
the mobile phone.
• An ordinary RF detector using tuned LC circuits is not suitable for
detecting signals in the GHz frequency band used in mobile phones that’s
why circuit detecting gigahertz signals is required for a mobile bug.
• Op-amp is used in the circuit is act as a comparator. It may come with
MOSFET inputs and bipolar output.
• It has high speed of performance and suitable for low input current
application.
• IC-555 is a highly stable controller capable of producing accurate timing
pulses. With the monostable operation the time delay is controlled by one
external resistor and one capacitor.
Result
1. The moment the Bug detects RF transmission signal from an activated mobile
phone, it starts sounding a beep alarm and the LED blinks.
2. . The alarm continues until the signal transmission ceases
Conclusion
3. This pocket-size mobile transmission detector or sniffer can sense the presence of
an activated mobile cell phone from one and-a-half meters. So, it can be used to
prevent use of mobile phones in examination halls, confidential rooms, etc.
4. It is also useful for detecting the use of mobile phone for spying and unauthorized
video transmission.
Applications
1. It can be used to prevent use of mobile phones in examination halls, confidential
rooms, etc.
2. It is also useful for detecting the use of mobile phone for spying and unauthorized
video transmission.
Advantages
3. Smaller in size .
4. Detection of hidden cell phones .
Limitations
5. This device is not work for 5G phones
6. This device give suitable results in 2G and 3G phones
