Acceptance criteria:
• The mobile app should be accessible on basic mobile phones
with limited internet connectivity.
• The app should provide accurate and up-to-date information on weather
forecasts and market prices.
• The app should be user-friendly and easy to navigate for small-scale
farmers with limited education and digital literacy.
Measurement:
To measure the impact of our solutions, we would
track changes in small-scale farmers' yields,
incomes, and access to information and resources
over time. We would also conduct surveys
and focus groups to gather feedback on the
effectiveness and usability of our solutions.
Return to the WHY: :
Improved access to modern agricultural practices and
technology can help small-scale farmers like Kofi to
improve their livelihoods, increase food security, and
contribute to more sustainable and resilient food
systems.
Appendix 1:
• Small-scale farming is a critical source of livelihood for millions of people in developing countries, but these
farmers often face significant challenges in accessing resources and support to improve their productivity and
incomes.
• Organizations and initiatives are working to address these challenges and support small-scale farmers in
accessing modern agricultural practices and technology, including government-led programs, NGOs, and private
sector initiatives.
• Successful initiatives have focused on providing small-scale farmers with access to mobile-based extension
services, weather information, and market prices, as well as improving access to drought-tolerant crop varieties
through biotechnology.
• Technology and information can be valuable tools for supporting small-scale farmers, but addressing
underlying structural barriers, such as land tenure insecurity and access to markets, is also critical to achieving
long-term improvements in their livelihoods and well-being.
