The document discusses balanced and unbalanced forces. It explains that balanced forces occur when two equal forces act in opposite directions, resulting in no movement. Unbalanced forces cause movement, with the direction and amount of movement determined by the resultant force. The document provides instructions on how to draw force diagrams and calculate resultant forces to determine if forces are balanced or unbalanced.

Balanced and Unbalanced Forces
L3 – I can understand simple force diagrams
and say which way the object will move. L4 – I can also correctly draw a force diagram and say whether the force is balanced or unbalanced. L5 – I can also work out the resultant force on an object and draw force diagrams. L6 – I can also work out the resultant forces of complex forces working on an object. What can forces do? • Change the speed • Change the Shape • Change the direction How to draw force diagram • Use a ruler and pencil • The size of arrow shows the size of the force. • The direction of the arrow shows the direction of the force. Balanced Forces
When two forces acting on an object
are equal in size but act in opposite directions, we say that they are balanced forces. If the forces on an object are balanced (or if there are no forces acting on it) this is what happens: Balanced Forces Unbalanced Forces To Do Is this a balanced or unbalanced force? Which way is it moving or is it standing still?

Which way is it moving or is it standing still? Resultant Forces
• The size of the overall force acting on an object is called
the resultant force. • If the forces are balanced, this is zero. In the example above, the resultant force is the difference between the two forces, which is 100 - 60 = 40 N. Resultant Forces Copy these into your book and work out the resultant forces. Say which way the block will move and with how much force. To do • Complete your worklog
