STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION TOWARD

STUDENT TEACHING INTERNSHIP

PROGRAM (STIP) AND THEIR LEVEL
OF PREPAREDNESS

Rationale
The transition from a student to a working adult can be complicated. When they begin their
professional careers, students must overcome numerous obstacles. By applying their conceptual
knowledge in the new workplace through internship, they must adapt to the professional setting. Student
teaching internships have been a critical component of teacher preparation programs for many years.
However, like many other aspects of education, this area has been impacted by various present issues
that affect the quality and effectiveness of student teaching internships. One of the various issues of
student teaching internships is the impact of COVID-19. The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly
impacted internships for student-teachers. Many schools have had to shift to remote or hybrid learning
models, which has limited the opportunities for in-person observation and hands-on teaching experience.
With the presented issues, the researchers were dedicated to determining the perceptions of the bona fide
third-year Bachelor in Elementary Education students of Bohol Island State University–Main Campus for
the Academic Year 2023-2024 and their level of preparedness toward the Student Teaching Internship
Program (STIP).

Main Problem

This study aims to determine the perception and level of

preparedness of third-year Bachelor of Elementary Education
(BEED) students of Bohol Island State University-Main
Campus A.Y. 2023-2024 toward the Student Teaching
Internship Program (STIP).
Specific Problem

Specifically, this study seeks to answer the following questions:

1. What is the participants’ perception toward the Student Teaching

Internship Program (STIP)?
2. What is the participants’ level of preparedness toward Student
Teaching Internship Program in terms of:
2.1 physical;
2.2 psychological; and
2.3 emotional?
Specific Problem

3. Is there any significant relationship between the participants’

perception toward Student Teaching Internship Program (STIP) and
their level of preparedness?

4. What action plan can be proposed based on the findings of the

study?

Research Methodology

Design
The researchers will use a descriptive-correlational design, which aims to provide static
pictures of situations as well as establish the relationship between different variables (McBurney
& White, 2009). It allows the researchers to gather precise and quantifiable information on third-
year BEED students to determine the relationship between (1) the participants’ perception
toward STIP and (2) their level of preparedness.

Environment
The study will be conducted at the Bohol Island State University-Main Campus, which is
situated along CPG Avenue in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, 6300. Specifically, the study will be done in
the College of Teacher Education (CTE) and the researchers chose the above-mentioned
institution due to the reason that the target participants of the study are bona fide students of
Bohol Island State University-Main Campus.
Research Methodology

Participants
With a 95% confidence level and 0.05 margin of error, the researchers got 87
participants out of 112 third-year BEED students, which are equally divided among the
three sections resulting in 29 participants per section. The researchers use simple
random sampling in selecting the 29 participants in each section. The researchers
specifically chose these students as their participants because the participants are
future student interns that will have their student teaching internship program once they
fulfilled their academic requirements.
Research Methodology

Instruments
A self-made 4-point Likert Scale survey questionnaire will be used by the researchers,
tailored fit to the study, as a sort of data collection technique to acquire, examine, and
interpret the various perspectives of third-year BEED students, and their level of
preparedness toward STIP. The research instrument is divided into two sets. The first set of
the questionnaire is intended to determine the perception of the participants toward STIP. The
second set of the questionnaire is intended to determine the participants’ level of
preparedness in terms of physical, psychological, and emotional aspects toward experiencing
and completing STIP as soon as they will be able to accomplish all academic requirements to
enroll for STIP. It is to be measured through a 4-point Likert scale with its corresponding
interpretation.
Procedure Phase I- Pre-data Gathering
The researchers will send letters requesting permission from the Campus Director and
the Dean of the College of Teacher Education of Bohol Island State University–Main Campus
to conduct the study.

Phase II- Actual Data Gathering

A self-made questionnaire that is tailored fit to the study will be used by the researchers
as a sort of data collection technique to acquire, examine, and interpret the various
perspectives of third-year BEED students enrolled at Bohol Island State University-Main
Campus for the academic year 2023-2024.

Phase III- Post Data Gathering

After getting the questionnaire results, the data will be tallied, tabulated and analyzed
using the weighted mean and other statistical treatment to determine the significant
relationship between the participants’ perception toward Student Teaching Internship
Program (STIP) and their level of preparedness. The researchers will also interpret the
results and formulate suitable conclusions and recommendations that aim to enhance the
preparedness of the participants toward STIP for the upcoming academic year 2023-2024.
Statistical Treatment
The researchers will use the following formula in the conduct of their study.

• To determine the sample size for the third-year BEED participants, the
Slovin’s formula will be utilized.
• To determine the participants’ perception and level of preparedness toward
STIP, the researchers will utilize weighted mean.
• To determine the significant relationship between the participants’ perception
toward the Student Teaching Internship Program (STIP) and their level of
preparedness, the researchers used the formulas of One-Way ANOVA and
Scheffé’s Test.
