IoT PPT

The document discusses the Internet of Things (IoT) and its importance. It defines IoT as connecting physical devices to the internet and allowing them to transfer and receive data without human intervention. The origin of the term IoT is traced back to 1999 when Kevin Ashton coined the phrase. The purpose and importance of IoT is explained as allowing devices to self-report in real time, improve efficiency, and surface important information more quickly. It also helps automate homes and businesses for cost savings. Key components of an IoT architecture are then outlined as sensors, connectivity, data processing, and user interfaces. Technologies like low-cost sensors, connectivity protocols, cloud computing, machine learning, and conversational AI are described as enabling

What is IoT Technology?

It can transfer & receive the data without

any human intervention.

It connects things to the network & displays

& controls it.
Origin of IoT

Kevin Ashton, MIT's Executive Director of

Auto-ID Labs, coined the phrase “Internet of
Things” in 1999.

He was the first to describe the IoT.

Purpose of IoT

1.To have devices that self report in real

time.
2. Improves efficiency.
3. Bringing important information to the
surface more quickly.
Importance of IoT
1) Helps people live & work smarter.

2) Offering smart devices to automate homes.

3) Provides businesses with a real-time look for knowing how their systems really work.

4) Enables companies to automate processes & reduce labor costs.

An IoT architecture is the system of
numerous elements that range from :
sensors, protocols, actuators, to cloud services
& layers.
1. Sensors/ Devices
The foremost component to consider in Internet of Things
technology is sensor/devices.

It picks up all the minute details from an environment also picks up even the
most sensitive changes.

These sensors are built in the devices which collect all the data to be used later.

2. Connectivity
Once the data is collected it is transferred to the cloud infrastructure.

But to transfer the data, the devices will need a medium like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi,
WAN, cellular networks etc come into play.

The effectiveness of IoT security highly depends on the speed and availability of
these mediums.
3. Data Processing

After reaching the cloud infrastructure the data has to be analyzed so that
the right action can be taken.

The IoT application is made such that it can process all the data at a fast
rate to take immediate actions.

4. User Interface

The last step is when the user is notified about the action with the help of
a notification or an alert sound sent to the IoT mobile apps.

This way the user will know that his command has been run through the systems.
What technologies have made IoT possible?

1) Access to low-cost, low-power sensor technology :

Affordable and reliable sensors are
making IoT technology possible for
more manufacturers.
•
2) Connectivity :
A host of network protocols for the internet has made
it easy to connect sensors to the cloud and to other
“things” for efficient data transfer.
•
3) Cloud computing platforms :
The increase in the availability of
cloud platforms enables both businesses
and consumers to access the infrastructure they need
to scale up without actually having to manage it all.
4) Machine learning and analytics :
With advances in machine learning
and analytics, along with access to varied
and vast amounts of data stored in
the cloud, businesses can gather insights
faster and more easily.

5) Conversational artificial intelligence (AI) :

Advances in neural networks have brought
natural-language processing (NLP) to IoT
devices (such as digital personal assistants
Alexa, Cortana, and Siri) and made
them appealing, affordable, and viable for
home use.
