Math Formative 2

Trigonometry describes the relationships between sides and angles of right-angled triangles using ratios and formulas. It is used in fields like construction, engineering, astronomy, and physics. There are six main trigonometric ratios that relate the hypotenuse and adjacent or opposite sides. The Pythagorean theorem, c2 = a2 + b2, relates the lengths of the sides of a right triangle. Trigonometry allows calculating the optimal tilt and azimuth angles for solar panels to capture the most sunlight.

TRIGONOMETRY

PREPARED BY JANNATUL NAIMA 8B

WHAT IS TRIGONOMETRY?
-Trigonometry is the branch of mathematics that describes the relationship
between the sides of a triangle (right-angled triangle) and its angles. It helps
to find the missing or unknown angles or sides of a right angle triangle
using the trigonometric formulas.
- In trigonometry, the angles can be either measured in degrees or radians.

-Some of the most commonly used trigonometric angles for calculations are
0°, 30°, 45°, 60° and 90°.
-A right-angled triangle is a type of triangle that has one of its angles
equal to 90 degrees. The other two angles sum up to 90 degrees.
-There are 3 sides of a right angle triangle where the longest side is
called the hypotenuse, and the side  opposite to the hypotenuse are
referred to as the adjacent and opposite side.
TRIGONOMETRY RATIOS
There are six important Pythagoras Theorem is which explains the relation
between the sides of a right-angled triangle.
trigonometric ratios that are
calculated using the formulas and Pythagoras theorem is basically used to find the length
of an unknown side and the angle of a triangle. By this
considering the above picture.  theorem, we can derive the base, perpendicular and
hypotenuse formulas.

The theorem is named after a Greek Mathematician

called Pythagoras.

Pythagoras Theorem Formula

a is the opposite.
b is the adjacent.
c is the hypotenuse.
So therefore, the formula is given as:
Hypotenuse2 = opposite2 + adjacent2
c2 = a2 + b2
USES OF TRIGONOMETRY
For many different reasons trigonometry is used practically. Surveyors use it for precise mapping
and navigation, while architects, engineers, and builders use it to plan and build buildings.

To analyze celestial objects and determine their locations, astronomers use trigonometry.

Trigonometry is used in both engineering and physics to model complicated systems and analyze
waveforms.

In medical imaging, trigonometry is used to rebuild pictures and to allow GPS systems to detect
accurate positions.

Trigonometry has a significant influence on a variety of fields, including several scientific and
technical ones, and is essential to daily life.
Trigonometric ratios are important when deciding where to put solar panels on a building's roof. Solar panels need to be placed at angles that capture the
most sunlight.

There are two main angles to consider:

The tilt angle
-The tilt angle is how much the panel tilts up or down.
-we look at the latitude of the building's location, time of year and match the panel's tilt angle with the latitude angle to capture the most sunlight. We use
a special function called "sine" to calculate the tilt angle.

The azimuth angle.

-The azimuth angle is the compass direction from which the sunlight is coming.
-The azimuth angle helps us figure out which way the solar panel should face. We use another special function called "cosine" to calculate the azimuth
angle.

By using these trigonometric calculations, architects and designers can find the tilt angle and azimuth angle for solar panels. This ensures that the panels
get the most sunlight, which helps them produce the most energy.
