Final Demo Dry Run

The document discusses measures of central tendency including mean, median, and mode. It provides examples of calculating each measure and identifying the different types based on the data set. Measures of central tendency are used to understand the center or typical value in a data set. [END SUMMARY]

Measures of Central
Tendency
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:

A. Identify the measures of Central Tendency

of a given data
B. Calculate the measures of central tendency
of a data set

C. Appreciate the use of measures of central

tendency of ungrouped data
The Measures of Central Tendency is
any measure representing the center of
a set of data arranged in decreasing or
increasing order of magnitude.
The Measures of Central Tendency is
any measure representing the center of
a set of data arranged in decreasing or
increasing order of magnitude.
Mean
Mean is the average of all data set.

Mean is denoted by a symbol read

as “x bar”
To find the mean, use the formula:

where:
means summation or add all of your data

n stands for number of data

Example no. 1

Rodley’s plants had measures 8,7,10,7,12,11,5. Find the

mean of his plants

Example no. 2

Shidel’s plants had measures 6,8,11,7,11,12,15. Find the

mean of her plants

Median
Median is the middle value in the set of
data arranged in increasing or
decreasing.

Median can be denoted by the symbol

read as “x tilde”

There are two types of data set: odd data

set and even data set.
To find the median of odd data set, use the following
steps:

1. Arrange the data in increasing or

decreasing order.

2. Find the middle value that divides the

data set into two equal parts.
Example no. 1
Find the median of Rodley’s plants: 8,7,10,7,12,11,8

1. Arrange the data in increasing or decreasing

order.

7 7 8 8 10 11 12
Example no. 1
Find the median of Rodley’s plants: 8,7,10,7,12,11,8

2. Find the middle value that divides the data set

into two equal parts.

7 7 8 8 10 11 12
To find the median of even data set, use the following
steps:
1. Arrange the data in increasing or decreasing order.

2. Find the two middle value that divides the data set
into two equal parts.

3. Add them up and divide into two to find the

median.
Example no. 2

Find the median in the set of scores: 84,96,71,82,67,92

1. Arrange the data in increasing or decreasing order.

67 71 82 84 92 96
Example no. 2

Find the median in the set of scores: 84,96,71,82,67,92

2. Find the two middle value that divides the data set int
two equal parts.

67 71 82 84 92 96
Example no. 2

Find the median in the set of scores: 84,96,71,82,67,92

3. Add them up and divide into two to find the median.

82 + 84 = 166
166 ÷ 2 = 83 median
Mode
The mode is the most frequently occurring score in
the data set.

Mode can be denoted by a symbol read as “ x hat “

There are three types of mode: Unimodal, Bimodal,

and No Mode.
Example no. 1

10 14 13 14 14 12
Example no. 1

10 14 13 14 14 12

The mode in the data set is 14. It is called

UNIMODAL because it has one mode.
Example no. 1

8 7 10 7 12 11 8
Example no. 2

8 7 10 7 12 11 8

The modes in the data set is 8 and 7 because they are the
most frequently occurring score. It is called BIMODAL
because it has two modes.
Example no. 3

78 87 90 86 80
Example no. 3

78 87 90 86 80

There are no repeated data in the set. This

is called NO MODE.
