creative skill and
imagination, typically in a

producing works to be
appreciated primarily for
their beauty or emotional
power.
WHAT IS NATURE?

the phenomena of the

physical world
collectively, including
plants, animals, the
landscape, and other
features and products of
the earth, as opposed to
humans or human
creations.
WHAT IS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN
ART AND NATURE?
Art and Nature has a great
connection because nature
can become the source of
many different form of art.
Art and Nature share a close
relationship where nature
inspires art, and in art,
beauty found in the nature
can be present which are
seen in nature itself. Nature
has inspired artists, helped
them be creative, and given
them ideas for their art.
Artists have long been
inspired by beauty and
nature. It has been a
common subject matter in
art from all cultures and
time periods. Some artists
have used nature to
express their love of the
natural world, while
others have used it to
highlight the fragility of
nature or the human
connection to nature.
Nature, with its beauty
and aesthetics, can be
considered art in its own
right. This connection has
led to many different
works of art that shows
how amazing and
wonderful our nature is.
THE STARRY NIGHT

VINCENT VAN GOGH

A Dutch Post-Impressionist painter, van Gogh is known for his
expressive paintings of landscapes, flowers, and self-portraits. His
work is characterized by its bold colors and thick brushstrokes,
which he used to convey his emotional response to the natural
world. His nature paintings are not only one of the most
expressive works but are images which, for many, act like the
footprints of the inner workings and the turmoil of the author’s
soul.
WATER LILIES

CLAUDE MONET
A French Impressionist painter, Monet is best known for his
paintings of water lilies and other natural subjects. His work is
characterized by its loose brushstrokes and use of light and color
to capture the ever-changing beauty of nature.
GLOUCESTER HARBOR

WINSLOW HOMER
The self-taught American artist Winslow Homer initially worked as
a commercial illustrator. Fascinated with nature, he began
investigating the traditional oil medium and soon became famous
for his landscape and marine subjects produced during his working
vacations. His nature painting Gloucester Harbor showcases the
beauty of color, the shifting light, and the serene atmosphere of the
vacation at the sea.
ART
and
BEAUTY
Art and Beauty are surely intertwined in a way
that art expresses beauty. Many works of art are
" Love of beauty is taste. The
created with an emphasis on aesthetics, which aims creation of beauty is art. "
to engage the viewer's senses and evoke a sense
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
of beauty. It may be that it evokes strong emotions
to somehow share a deeper message or meaning
to beauty itself.

Also, art can also be a way of knowing or

recognizing the beauty of people, culture and other
historical contexts since it has the power to
challenge conventional notions of beauty. It would
then depend on the artist on how he/she would
make the audience rethink their perceptions of
beauty.

Thus, art is a creative medium through which

individuals and societies discover, express and
sometimes redefine their notions of beauty.
Art and beauty are complex and
subjective concepts that have
been explored and debated by
philosophers, artists, and scholars
for centuries. They are deeply
intertwined and often intersect in
various ways. Beauty, like art, is
highly subjective. What one
person finds beautiful, another
may not.
This subjectivity is influenced by
individual preferences, cultural
backgrounds, and personal
experiences. Different cultures
and historical periods have had
varying definitions of beauty and
artistic expression. Throughout
history, artists have strived to
create works that are
aesthetically pleasing and convey
a sense of beauty.
Art often serves as a
medium for expressing
and exploring ideas
about beauty, whether
through visual arts like
painting and sculpture,
performing arts like
dance and theater, or
literary arts like poetry
and prose.
This is seen in the known
works like the Mona Lisa by
Leonardo da Vinci and The
Girl with the Pearl Earring by
Johannes Vermeer. But it is
not always aesthetics because
some artists deliberately
challenge conventional
notions of beauty in their
work, seeking to provoke
thought or challenge societal The Girl with the Pearl Earring Mona Lisa
norms
They may create art that is
intentionally unsettling or
thought-provoking, forcing
viewers to reconsider their
preconceptions such as Picasso's
Girl before a Mirror and the
haunting imagery of Guernica. Guernica

These creations serve as a

poignant reminder that art is not
confined to pleasing the eye but
possesses the transformative A Girl before a Mirror
power to challenge
preconceptions and provoke
profound contemplation.
In essence, the enduring interplay
between art and beauty reflects the
limitless capacity of the human spirit
to explore, innovate, and challenge
the boundaries of perception. As we
continue to navigate this intricate
landscape of subjectivity and
creativity, we are reminded that the
journey itself is a testament to the
richness and depth of our shared
human experience.
