This document outlines a student project to 1) develop a 3D scanner for reverse engineering applications, 2) develop a 3D printer for rapid prototyping, and 3) integrate the scanner and printer to accelerate product development. A team of four students led by an advisor will conduct background research, develop and test the scanner and printer, integrate the technologies, and optimize the process over three months. The expected outcome is a streamlined workflow using 3D scanning and printing to reduce product development time.

Project Guide

Dr.Prasanna J,

Associate Professor

Department of Mechanical Engineering

Objectives

1. To develop a 3D scanner for reverse engineering application.

2. To develop a 3D printer for rapid prototyping application

3. To Integrate 3d scanner and 3d printer for rapid product development

Need for the Project

● Reverse engineering has become a viable method to create a 3D virtual

model of an existing physical part for use in 3D CAD, CAM, CAE or other

software

● Rapid prototyping using 3D printing has become a feasible method to reduce

manufacturing lead time and prototype development costs.
