Multilpe Regression

This document provides an overview of regression analysis techniques, including simple linear regression, multiple linear regression, and logistic regression. It explains that regression analysis allows one to predict a variable based on one or more other variables. Multiple regression specifically examines the relationship between one dependent variable and several independent variables. Key differences between simple and multiple regression are that multiple regression includes two or more predictor variables rather than just one. The document also notes some important points to consider before conducting a regression analysis.

REGRESSION ANALYSIS

• A regression analysis makes it possible to infer or predict a variable on the basis of one or
more mother variable
OBJECTIVE OF REGRESSION ANALYSIS ARE THE
FF:
• 1.)Measurement of the influence of one or more variables or another variable
• 2.) prediction of a variable by one or more variables.
FORMS OF REGRESSION

• Simple linear Regression

• Multiple linear regression
• Logistic Regression
SIMPLE LINEAR REGRESSION

• We could use the equation to predict weight if we knew an individual's height.

• In this example, if an individual was 70 inches tall, we would predict his weight to
be: Weight = 80 + 2 x (70) = 220 lbs. In this simple linear regression, we are examining
the impact of one independent variable on the outcome.
MULTIPLE REGRESSION

• is a statistical technique that can be used to analyze the relationship between a single
dependent variable and several independent variables.
LOGISTIC REGRESSION

• This type of statistical model (also known as logit model) is often used for classification
and predictive analytics.

• Logistic regression estimates the probability of an event occurring, such as voted or didn't
vote, based on a given dataset of independent variables.
WHAT CAN MULTIPLE REGRESSION TELL US…

• Multiple regression analysis allows researchers to assess the strength of the relationship
between an outcome (the dependent variable) and several predictor variables as well as
the importance of each of the predictors to the relationship, often with the effect of other
predictors statistically eliminated.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SIMPLE REGRESSION
AND MULTIPLE REGRESSION?

• The main difference between simple and multiple regression is that multiple regression
includes two or more independent variables – sometimes called predictor variables – in
the model, rather than just one.
BEFORE BEGINNING YOUR ANALYSIS, YOU
SHOULD CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING POINTS:
a.Regression analyses reveal relationships among variables (relationship between the criterion variable and the
linear combination of a set of predictor variables) but do not imply a causal relationship.

b. A regression solution – or set of predictor variables – is sensitive to combinations of variables. Whether a

predictor is important in a solution depends on the other predictors in the set.

c. If the predictor of interest is the only one that assesses some important facet of the outcome, it will appear
important. If a predictor is only one of several predictors that assess the same important facet of the outcome, it will
appear less important. For a good set of predictor variables – the smallest set of uncorrelated variables is best.

REGRESSION
MULTIPLE REGRESSION FORMULA?

• Multiple regression formulas analyze the relationship between dependent and multiple
independent variables.
• For example, the equation Y represents the formula is equal to a plus bX1 plus cX2 plus
dX3 plus E where Y is the dependent variable, and X1, X2, and X3 are independent
variables. A is the intercept, b, c, and d are the slopes, and E is the residual value.
