What is the purpose of tag questions?


= to ask for confirmation from the listener that the statement is
correct. In this case, when the statement is positive, we use a
negative question tag.

Question tags are more common in speaking than writing.


If the statement has an auxiliary verb or modal,
it is repeated in the tag question, as shown in the examples:
Tony and Emily are coming, aren't they?
She's a doctor, isn't she?
