It was launched in 1984 to help students acquire technical skills and later changed its name to ALS in 2004. ALS targets primary/secondary drop-outs, out of school youth, non-readers, workers, and senior citizens. The government established ALS to provide all Filipinos access to basic education through a flexible mode. ALS is administered by the Bureau of Alternative Learning System under the Department of Education. It aims to expand access to education through 2 programs: Basic Literacy and Continuing Education for accreditation/equivalency. Recently, ALS aligned its curriculum with K-12 to provide learners the same
