Lab Equipment

Test Tube Tongs

• Used to hold test

tubes.
Electronic Balance

• Used to find the

mass of materials.
Bunsen Burner

• Used to heat
materials in lab.
Gas Lighter or Sparker

• Used to ignite the

Bunsen burner.
Microscope

• Used to examine
objects that cannot
be seen with the
naked eye.
Hot Plate

•Used for heating

liquids and
flammable
substances.
Retort Stand

• Used in many lab

activities as the
support for other
apparatus.
Ring Clamp

• Often attached to
retort stand to use as
support for a beaker.
Wire Gauze

• Often placed over

the ring clamp, to
provide a "stage" for
a beaker.
Thermometer Clamp

• Used to hold
thermometer in
place.
Test Tube Clamp

• May be attached to a
retort stand to hold a
test tube or burette.
Beaker Tongs

• Used to handle hot

beakers and other
glassware.
Funnel

• May be placed in
ring clamp. Used
for filtration or the
delivery of liquids.
Weighing Boat

• Chemicals are not

placed directly on a
balance. These trays
hold the reagents.
Scoopula

• Used to transfer
chemicals from one
vessel to another.
Goggles

• Must be worn for

each lab activity.
Mortar and Pestle

• Used to ground
crystals into fine
powder.
Petri Dish

• Used to create
cultures for
microbiology
studies.
Test Tube Rack

• Holds many test

tubes.
Test Tube

• Used for activities

which require
multiple reagents or
solutions.
Ray Boxes

• Used to project
either single or
multiple beams of
light.
Beaker

• Probably the most

common vessel for
holding liquids in
the laboratory.
Erlenmeyer Flask

• May be used to hold

liquids, instead of
beakers, when a
smaller opening is
preferred.
Laser Pointer

• A device that emits

an intense beam of
ligt.
Graduated Cylinder

• Used to measure the

volume of liquids.
Curved Mirrors

• A curved reflective
surface, which may
be either convex or
concave.
Glass Stirring Rod

• Used to stir liquids.

Watch Glass

• Used to evaporate
off the liquid part of
a solution.
Acrylic Block/Semicircular Dish

• A vessel that allows

light to be refracted
through.
Flask Tongs

• Used to hold the

neck of flasks.
Dissection Kit

• Used to examine the

internal structure of
an organism.
Curved Lenses

• An optical device
which transmits and
refracts light,
converging or
diverging the beam.
Spot Plate

• Used to test
substances by using
smaller amounts.
