Good Health and Well-being in Bangladesh
This presentation provides an overview of the Sustainable Development
Goal 3: ensuring healthy lives and promoting wellbeing for all at all ages, with a focus on the situation in Bangladesh. It covers the government initiatives, current progress, challenges, and recommendations for further improvement. Introduction ● Good health and well-being is a basic human right and is essential for individuals to live a fulfilling life. ● The United Nations' SDGs include Goal 3, which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages. ● Bangladesh's high population density, limited resources and numerous health challenges make achieving this goal a priority. Overview of the Goal in Bangladesh ● Goal 3 of the SDGs includes targets related to reducing maternal and child mortality, combating major diseases, promoting mental health, and achieving universal health coverage. ● Bangladesh has made progress in some areas, such as reducing maternal and child mortality rates, but faces challenges in others, such as non-communicable diseases and mental health issues. Government Initiative to achieve the Goal’s target ● The Bangladesh government has implemented numerous initiatives to achieve the SDG 3 targets, such as the Health, Nutrition and Population Sector Program, the National Strategy for Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health, and the Health Care Financing Strategy. ● The government has also increased investment in the health sector, improved health facilities and services, and expanded immunization coverage. Current Progress and Key Challenges ● Bangladesh has made progress in achieving some of the SDG 3 targets, but more needs to be done to address challenges, such as inadequate funding, weak infrastructure, inadequate health workforce, and social determinants of health. ● The COVID-19 pandemic has also highlighted weaknesses in the health system and widened health inequalities. Current Progress in Achieving the Goals and Targets ● Significant progress has been made in reducing infant and maternal mortality rates. ● Bangladesh has also achieved universal immunization coverage for children. ● Progress has been made in combating communicable diseases such as tuberculosis and malaria. Key Challenges ● Bangladesh still faces challenges such as high rates of malnutrition, inadequate healthcare infrastructure, and insufficient resources. ● Limited access to clean water and sanitation also contribute to health challenges. Recommendations for Further Improvement ● Recommendations include increasing investments in healthcare infrastructure, improving the quality of care, and expanding access to essential health services in rural and remote areas. ● Other recommendations include investing in nutrition programs and improving access to clean water and sanitation facilities. Conclusion ● Achieving SDG 3 in Bangladesh requires a multi-sectoral approach, including strengthening health systems, addressing social determinants of health, increasing investment in health, and involving communities in health promotion. ● Key recommendations include increasing funding for the health sector, improving health infrastructure and workforce, expanding health services to underserved areas, and promoting preventive and primary health care.
