Quantum Computing PPT 541-1

SRI CHAITANYA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY & RESEARCH(SCITR) hosted a technical seminar presentation on quantum computers presented by Lingamarla Udaykiran. The presentation discussed that a quantum computer performs calculations based on quantum mechanics and particles that can exist in multiple states at once. It reviewed the evolution of quantum computing from Isaac Chuang's creation of the first 2-qubit quantum computer in 1998. Advantages of quantum computing include potential increases in power efficiency and AI learning speed, while current disadvantages are the immature technology and high costs. The conclusion was that while quantum computing promises greatly increased computational power, its reliance on fragile quantum effects means the technology remains in early stages.

WHAT IS QUANTUM COMPUER ?
• A quantum computer is a machine that performs calculations based
on the laws of quantum mechanics, which is the behavior of particles
at the sub-atomic level. Quantum computing takes advantage of the
strange ability of subatomic particles to exist in more than one state
at any time.
Evolution :

“Isaac Chuang”
In 1998 Isaac Chuang of the Los Alamos National Laboratory, Neli
Gerstenfeld of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT),and
Mark Kubinee of the University of California at Berkeley created the
first quantum computer (2-qubit)that could be loaded with data and
output a solution.
• A quantum computer is nothing like a
classical computer in design you can’t for
instance build one from transistors and
diodes. In order to build one,a new type of
technology is needed,a technology that
enables “qubits” to exist as coherent
superpositions of 0 and 1 states.
History

• 1982-FEYNMAN proposed the idea of creating a machine based on

the law of quantum mechanics instead the law of classical physics.
• 1985-DAVID DEUTSCH developed the quantum turing machine,
showing the quantum circuits are universal.
• 2018-Google announces the creation of a 72-qubit quantum chip,
called “Bristlecone”,achieving a new record.
• 2019-IBM unveils its first commercial quantum computer ,the IBM Q
System One,designed by UK-based Map Project Office and Universal
Design Studio and manufactured by Goppion
Advantage of using quantum
computing.
• Quantum computing is said to be more power efficient than modern
computing through the use of quantum tunnelling. They are expected
to reduce power consumption from 100 to 1000 times.
• Quantum computers could speed up the learning process of
AI,reducing thousands of years of learning to mere seconds.
Disadvantage of using quantum
computing.
• The main disadvantage of computing is the technology required to
implement a quantum computer is not available at present. The
reason for this is the consistent electron is damaged as soon as it is
affected by its environment and that electron is very much essential
for the functioning of quantum computers.

• Can be expansive.

Conclusion
• With classical computers gradually approaching their limit, the
quantum compuer promises to deliver a new level of computational
power.
• But the very thing that makes them powerful, their reliance on
quantum mechanics, also makes them extremely fragile.
• We are in a time of high uncertainty about quantum world, its
effects, and laws that runs the Quantum Realm.Hence its right to say
that quantum technology is in its baby stages.
