Week 1 - Intro-Principles Practices of Communication

Communication can be viewed as an interactional process or transactional process. In an interactional process, communication is a back and forth between sender and receiver with each responding to the other's feedback. In a transactional process, communication is influenced by additional elements like noise, culture, context, and environmental and social factors. Barriers to communication can be semantic, cultural, physical, physiological, or psychological and interfere with the message exchange process. Formal communication networks involve downward, upward, horizontal, and diagonal flows of information, while informal networks occur through personal relationships. Ethical communication values truthfulness and distinguishes opinions from facts without bias. Verbal communication is spoken while non-verbal includes visual, vocal, and other cues.
