Introduction
Natural hazards are one of the destructive
phenomena that pose a significant risk to
humans, property, and the economy,
among other things. (Cadag,J Petal M.
et.al 2017). Natural disasters have a
significant impact on the economy and on
people; from 1980 to 2015, there were
2,599,237 fatalities and 6,354,195 injuries
as a result of natural disasters Shen,G
et.al 2021)
According to Jha S,Martinez A et.al (2018)The
Philippines, located in the Pacific Typhoon Belt, is highly
vulnerable to natural hazards such as typhoons, floods,
droughts, and earthquakes. Typhoons occur approximately 20
times per year, with floods more likely in countries with
recurring typhoons. Between 1978 and 2018, 2847 people
were killed in the Philippines due to floods, which caused a
total economic damage of Php 180 billion.
In addition Yavarian (2019) mentioned that Floods
cause immense challenges for affected residents, including
evacuation, property loss, health risks, and psychological
impact. Communities must provide necessary resources and
infrastructure to help residents rebuild and build a more
resilient future. Floods in Brgy. Dalahican, especially in Purok
Ibaba, can affect health, education, and livelihoods, and can
cause fear due to the potential for diseases like leptospirosis
and dengue.
Statement of the Problem
1.What are the factors affecting flood
disaster preparedness and mitigation in
flood prone area in Brgy. Dalahican Lucena
City?
2.What are the challenges of Brgy.
Dalahican Citizens residing in a flood prone
area?
3.What are the strategies and adjustment
that residents employ in dealing flood
challenges specially during rainy season?

Scope and Limitation
The study examines the challenges
faced by Brgy. Dalahican citizens in
dealing with floods during the rainy
season, focusing on the flood-prone area
with 25,346 residents. The research will
involve 30 respondents using cluster
sampling and aim to provide insights and
recommendations for short-term and
long-term flood management measures.

Literature and Studies
According to McDaniel (2012), flood is the
second-most common natural disaster on
Earth. It occurs when water overflows or a
soul's normally dry hand. There are few
places on the planet where people do not
have to worry about flooding. Floods
typically develop over hours or even days,
giving residents time to prepare or
evacuate. Floods can occur quickly and
without warning at times.
Research Studies
According to studies, catastrophic
disasters can be avoided with effective
preparedness and mitigation activities.
Researchers have proven that it is
crucial to have mandated mitigation
and preparedness activities in order to
avoid further damages brought by
catastrophic disasters (Sawalha 2020).
Research Design
This study employs a quantitative approach to investigate respondents' flood-
response strategies during rainy seasons, aiming to serve as a foundation for
future research. The descriptive method will be employed for analysis and
interpretation.
Respondents
This research will involve 30 individuals selected
through cluster sampling, particularly from flood-
prone Puroks in Brgy. Dalahican, who will be asked
to answer a checklist questionnaire during the rainy
season.
Instrument
In validating the instrument, three(3) educational
practitioner particularly in English Department at
Lucena Dalahican National High School will give
comments and suggestions as well as critiquing
and suggestions made were consider for
modification rephrasing and deletion of items.
Data Gathering
Data gathering procedure involve
sending letter of request asking permission
from the brgy captain of the place .
Then, after the approval the conduct of the
study was considered and the researcher
had administered a checklist questionnaire
using the Likert scale then after the
retrieval , data will be tallied, computed , and
tabulated which reveal the assessment on
the parameters of the study.
Statistical Treatment
To answer the problems posed in the study,
these statistical tools will be applied for the
data collected.
Where:.
WM=4f+3f+2f+f

W = weighted Average
n = number of terms to be averaged
f =frequency
Statistical Treatment
The scale below will be used for the analysis
of the data gathered:
