• Collecting discarded paper in
the paper recycling bin • Papers that has grease and chemicals is not acceptable 1 Step 2: Transportation and Sorting • A recycling hauler will go to collect recyclable papers • Transport it to Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) to be sorted • Paper will be measured and sorted into separate categories at the selected facilities 2 Step 3: Shredding and Pulping • After the paper has been sorted and checked for contaminants, it is baled together and sent to a paper mill • At the paper mill, paper is shredded down into small scrapes • Large amount of water and chemicals, like hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and many more are added to the shreds 3 Step 4: De-Inking • Large contaminants will be removed • The pulp is put into a large floatation tank with more chemicals and air bubbles • Chemicals and air bubbles help remove dyes and inks from the pulp,enhancing the whiteness of he pulp • Dyes can be added during this process to create colored paper 4 Step 5: Drying • It will passed through massive rollers to squeeze out excess water from the mixture • The pulp is sent through heated rollers to form long rolls of continuous sheets of paper • The rolls of paper are sent to various manufacturers to be produced into paper products. 5 Summary
