SETTING TROLLEY

• At the moment a housekeeping

attendant arrives at the hotel, there
are preliminary duties that he or
she needs to undertake before
doing the actual task. Collecting the
hand caddy, cleaning chemicals,
and trolley is one of the first things
to do.
• Each housekeeping
attendant must have his or her own
trolley during the course of duty. A
trolley is an essential vehicle that
allows housekeepers to mobilize
guest room supplies and amenities.
When trolleys are not in use, they
are placed in the linen rooms.
Here are the procedures on how to properly load
a trolley:

1.Before putting stuff in the trolley, it is a good practice to

check the condition of the trolley whether the wheels are
easy to drive, the handles are secured, and the
compartments are firm. Also check if the trolley is clean.

2.Check the list of guest rooms to be cleaned and list of

supplies needed for every room.
3.Load the trolley from the bottom to the top.

4.Put bed linen replacement such as mattress pads, sheets,

and pillowcases on the bottom shelf.

5.Place bathroom linens such as mats, towels, and face

cloths on the middle part of the trolley.

6.Put room supplies and amenities on the top shelf.

7.Stock hand caddy with cleaning supplies and position on
the vacuum as well.

8.Place other cleaning equipment such as broom and

vacuum cleaner on the side of the trolley.

9.Laundry bag for dirty linens and garbage bag must be

placed on the sides of the trolley.
Below are some tips on how to manage and
maintain an orderly trolley:
1.Stocking of supplies should be done after every duty.

2.Do not overload the trolley to avoid accident or tripping.

3.Maintain a clean trolley, free from soiled linen or garbage

after every use to avoid bad odor in the linen part of the
trolley.
• 4.Regularly wash the linen portion of the trolley and apply
deodorizer.

• 5.Check your trolley before every use for normal wear

and tear.

• 6.Use the same trolley throughout the duration of your

service at the hotel. Avoid swapping trolleys when
necessary to make every housekeeping attendant more
accountable.
• 7.Put only the supplies needed during the day. The
amount of supplies vary depending on the rooms, types of
rooms, and number of guests per room.

• 8.Never leave the garbage bag in the trolley after use.

• 9.Store the trolley in the linen room after use.

Below is a list of items stocked in a
housekeeping attendant’s trolley:
• Clean bedroom linens such as sheets, pillowcases,
mattress pads
• Clean towels and washcloth
• Clean bathroom mats
• Tissue paper
• Drinking glasses
• Shampoo, conditioner and soap
• Clean ashtrays
Setting Hand Caddy

1.Pick up the supply caddy and ensure that the caddy has the
proper number of rags and cleaning supplies.
Cleaning chemicals and supplies stocked in the hand caddy may
include the following:
• All purpose cleaner
• Spray window and glass cleaner
• Brushes
• Dusting solution
• Cloths and sponges
• Rubber gloves
2.Make sure that spray bottles are full, working properly, and labeled
clearly.
3.Rags, cloths, and sponges must be freshly cleaned.
4.Check if the vacuum cleaner is in working condition and is free of
dust, dirt and exposed wires. Vacuum bag must not be full too.
5.Ensure that other cleaning equipment is in good working
condition.
6.Report and replace any broken equipment.
Safe Use of Trolleys

The following points must be pondered to safely and

effectively use trolleys when cleaning a guest room.
• A trolley is usually placed on the side of a corridor
across the guest room. It should not be placed in the
middle or block the corridor to avoid guests or other
employees from bumping them.
• Every tool, equipment, and material placed in a trolley is
important and must be taken care of. A housekeeping
attendant must not take them for granted. He or she must
be responsible in using them, including preventing each
item to be lost or misplaced.
• The items must be properly placed on the trolley to
prevent them from falling. Do not let any item overhang
too.
• The trolley must not be overloaded. If more items are
necessary, it is best to go back to the store room and refill
the trolley.
• The trolley must also be securely locked. Necessary
items must not be left on the corridor.
• All the needed items must also have carried to the
room. Going back and forth and repetition of unlocking the
trolley may be a waste of time and effort and will more
likely result to inefficiency.
• A housekeeping attendant must not lift items that weigh
more than 16 kilograms as advised by occupational
health and safety standards. He or she must ask help
from other attendants instead.
