Forces That Affect Motion

The document discusses the different forces that affect motion, including frictional force, magnetic force, gravitational force, inertia, balanced forces, and unbalanced forces. It provides examples of how each force impacts the movement of objects. Specifically, it explains that frictional force slows down or stops motion, magnetic force pulls iron and steel objects, gravity pulls objects toward Earth, and inertia causes objects to remain at rest or in motion without outside forces. Balanced forces occur when forces are equal in opposite directions, while unbalanced forces cause movement when forces are unequal.

Forces that

Affect Motion
Introduction
Movement or motion is the
changing of position overtime.
But do you know that there are
forces that affect motion?
Objects change their motion
due to different forces.
What are the
Forces that
affect Motion?
What are the Forces
that affect Motion?

1. Frictional Force
Frictional force is a
force that slows down an
object, stops an object from
moving, or pushes back
when an object tries to slide.
In picture A, pulling the bag
in a rough surface will slow
down the movement of the
bag, rough surface offers
greater friction.

In picture B, the bag in a

smooth surface is easier to
pull because smooth surface
offers less friction.

that affect Motion?
2. Magnetic Force
A magnet is anything that
pulls or attracts iron and steel.
Magnetic force is another force
that affects movement which
pulls objects made of iron and
steel toward a magnet. For
example, a magnet pulling the
nails together.

affect Motion?
3. Force of Gravity
Gravity is the force that pulls
objects toward the center of the
earth. In the illustration below, the
ball which the boy throws up will
eventually fall down.
What are the Forces that
affect Motion? 4. Inertia
Another factor that affects the
motion of an object is inertia.
Inertia causes an object to
stay at rest or in motion unless an
outside force is acted or applied
upon them.
As shown in the illustration,
the ball will not move unless the
boy kicks it.
What are the Forces
that affect Motion?
5. Balanced Forces
When the forces on an object
are equal and in opposite directions,
it is called balanced forces.
Looking at the picture, it
shows that the two boys pulled the
rope from opposite directions with
equal strength that is why the ribbon
in the middle of the rope does not
move.

that affect Motion?

6. Unbalanced Forces
In the picture, there are
greater forces applied on the other
side of the rope.
Since, they are not equal in
number and strength, the ribbon
moves on the side where two boys
are pulling the rope because of
unbalanced forces.
Write TRUE if the statement is correct or FALSE if it is not.

TRUE
___________1. Force is needed to make things move.

TRUE
___________ 2. The forces are balanced when the forces on an object are equal and in opposite
directions.

FALSE
___________ 3. A magnet pulls or attracts wood and plastic.
FALSE
___________ 4. An object will move if all the forces are balanced.
TRUE

___________ 5. Inertia causes an object to stay at rest or in motion unless an outside force acted or
applied upon them.
