A person who speaks more than two
languages is called
'multilingual' (although the term
'bilingualism' can be used for
both situations).

language-first" education,
that is, schooling which
begins in the

at the MLE school, they all

Mother Tongue -Based Instruction

● The learning program is

children's L1.
Bilingual Education
● Two languages are used as the
media of instruction. This type

minority and the majority
languages are taught in both
majority and minority/non-
dominant languages.
Mother Tongue- Based Bilingual

his/her L1.

of study, to ensure ongoing
support for children to become
academically proficient in L1.
