Wax is obtained from petroleum through refining and dewaxing processes. Crude oil is refined through distillation to separate components based on boiling point, producing wax. If crude oil contains much wax, dewaxing removes waxy compounds to prevent clogging. Wax can then be purified, blended for specific properties, and formulated for applications like candles, coatings, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, plastics, textiles, foods, and corrugated board.

Wax processing petroleum
Wax is a natural by-product of petroleum refining.
It is composed of a mixture of hydrocarbons that are solid at room temperature. The process of obtaining wax from petroleum involves several steps: Introduction Wax chemical formula Classification of Wax De-Waxing Process Parameter used 1.Crude Oil Extraction: The process starts with the extraction of crude oil from underground reserves. This crude oil is a mixture of various hydrocarbons. 2.Refining: Crude oil is then sent to a refinery where it undergoes a process called distillation. This involves heating the crude oil and separating it into different components based on their boiling points. This process results in various fractions like gasoline, diesel, kerosene, Wax and heavier components like bitumen. 3.Dewaxing: If the crude oil is rich in waxy materials, it might undergo a dewaxing process. Dewaxing is the removal of waxy compounds from the oil to prevent them from solidifying and clogging pipelines or equipment. 4.Solvent Extraction: Some waxes are obtained through solvent extraction. This process involves dissolving the crude wax in a solvent (like a hydrocarbon) and then precipitating the wax by cooling or adding another solvent 5.Cracking and Hydrofinishing: In some cases, the heavy residues obtained from the initial refining process are subjected to further processes like cracking and hydrofinishing. Cracking breaks down large hydrocarbon molecules into smaller, more useful ones. Hydrofinishing is a process that removes impurities and improves the quality of the product.
6.Purification and Blending: The obtained wax might go through further
purification steps to remove any remaining impurities. It may also be blended with other waxes to achieve specific properties or grades. 7.Formulation and Packaging: Depending on the intended use, the wax may be further processed into specific formulations, such as candles, polishes, coatings, or other products. It is then packaged and prepared for distribution. Application of wax
