Damath and Sudoku

The document provides instructions for playing the games Damath and Sudoku. It explains that Damath is a combination of the board game Dama and math, where game pieces have numbers and the board has mathematical symbols. Sudoku involves logically placing numbers 1-9 in a 9x9 grid without repeats in rows, columns or 3x3 boxes. Basic techniques for Sudoku include scanning and pencil marking, while the rules of Damath involve capturing pieces diagonally and performing math operations on the space landed on to determine scores. Violations in Damath have penalties and the game aims to have the most points after 20 minutes.

SUDOKU
what is Sudoku?
• A japanese puzzle game based on logical
placement of numbers.
• Doesn’t involved calculations or advance math
skills. All you need is logic, brains, and
concentration.
what is Sudoku?
• The goal of sudoku is that a 9x9 grid must be filled with
digits so that each column, row, and 3x3 square contains
a number from 1 to 9.
• The 9x9 grid will have some squares filled in at the start
of the game. Our task is to complete the grid by using
logic to fill in the missing digits.
rules of sudoku

• Any row should’nt

contain more than
one of the same
number from 1 to 9

• Any column
should’nt contain
more than one of
the same number
from 1 to 9
rules of sudoku

• Any 3x3 grid

shouldn't contain
more than one of
the same number
from 1 to 9.

2 basic techniques to efficiently play
sudoku

scanning technique
• Scan rows and columns within each
triple-box area, eliminating numbers or
squares and finding situations where
only a single number can fit into a single
square.
2 basic techniques to efficiently play
sudoku

pencil marking/notes
• this technique uses a pencil to
write small numbers inside the
squares, denoting which
numbers may fit in.
key infos
• The goal of sudoku is that a 9x9 grid must be filled with
digits so that each column, row, and 3x3 square contains
a number from 1 to 9.
• The rules of sudoku is that any row, column, and 3x3
grid should'nt contain more than one of the numbers 1 to
9.
• The two basics techniques are scanning technique and

DAMATH
what is Damath?
• Damath is a two-player educational board
game combining the board game Dama
and math.
• Every piece has a corresponding number
and each white square on the board has a
mathematical symbol.
How to play damath?
• The goal is to have the most points at the end of the
game.
• Points are scored for each capture made during the game
and for each piece still on the board at the end of the
game.
• The games ends if a player has no pieces remaining (or
cannot make a legal move), the moves are repetitive, or
the twenty-minute time limit is reached.
rules in damath
• the chips should be placed correctly in
their correct positions.
• The player who will move first is
determined by tossing a coin or rock,
paper, scissors.
• All move should be one block forward
diagonal, except for Dama chips.
• The two players alternately take turns in
moving a chip (pass is not allowed)
rules in damath
• Each player is given 1min 30secs to
move, record the move, and write the
score in the score sheet.
• A warning is given to a player by the
arbiter if no move is made in 1min
30secs, one chip will be removed.
• A chip has to take the opponent's chip
diagonally forward or backward thus
pass is not allowed.
rules in damath
• In taking an opponent’s chip, the
‘Taker’ chip jumps over the ‘Taken’
chip and uses any of the four
operation symbols where the taker
chip lands.
• A player who touches a chip (touch
move) is required to move unless it is
not possible to do so. After each
move, a player has to record his or her
'move' in a scoresheet.
rules in damath

• Every damath game consist of

20mins
• There are several penalties
given to those who made
violations.
violations
• the opponent looked at the bottom of the chip
• did not eat the chips that they’re supposed to eat
• not moving within the time limit(1min 30s)
• not performing the ‘touch move’.
• passing your turn.
violations
1st violation: warning
2nd: penalty
• If you have 3 penalties, you will be disqualified
and your opponent will automatically win.
• Your opponent can report it to the facilitator, the
facilitator will check if the report is valid or not.
scoring system
• After each move, players
should write down their move
(ex: -9 (6, 5)), score, and total
points.
• After making a move, a player
shall record his/her move in the
score sheet. Only one score
sheet will be used by the
players in a game.
scoring system
• When a dama eats a normal
chip or normal chip eats a
dama, the score will be
doubled (x2).
• When a dama eats a dama,
the score will be quadruple
(x4).
scoring system
• When a capture is made, the
score of the capture is
calculated by using the
mathematical operation shown
on the space the capturing piece
lands on, with the values of the
capturing piece and the
captured piece as the operands.
scoring system
• When a dama piece (king)
captures or is captured, the score
is doubled (or quadrupled when a
dama piece captures a dama
piece).
• Each player also scores the value
of their pieces remaining on the
board at the end of the game,
with dama pieces again scoring
double.
ex:
-9(6,5)

rules of integers
Addition:
• positive + positive = positive
• negative + negative = negative
• If the signs aren’t the same (ex: negative + positive)
subtract then use the sign of the bigger number.

ex: 2+2= 4 -3+(-3)=-6 10+(-3)=7 -11+2=-9

rules of integers
subtraction:
• negative - negative = negative or positive (change the
operation and sign of the 2nd number then subtract and copy
the sign of the bigger number)
• negative - positive = negative
• positive - negative = positive (change operation and sign of
2nd number then add)

ex: -3-(-5)=-3+5= 2 | -7-(-5)= -7+5=-2 | -9-5= -4 |

5-(-3)= 5 + 3= 8
rules of integers
multiplication:
• If like signs, positive. if unlike signs,
negative.

ex: 5 x 5= 25 | -6 x -6= 36 |-5 x 5 = -25 | 5 x (-

3)= -15
rules of integers
division:
• same as multiplication, if same signs,
positive. If unlike signs, negative:

ex: 25/5=5 | -20/-4=5 | -30/6= -5 |

50/-5=-10
