Fiedler - Hershey - Blanchard Theories

Fred Fiedler developed the contingency model of leadership which states that there is no single best leadership style and that the most effective style depends on the situation. The model involves first determining a leader's style as either task-oriented or relationship-oriented using a scale. It then assesses three factors of the situation - leader-member relations, task structure, and position power - to determine how favorable the situation is. The model proposes that leadership effectiveness depends on matching a leader's style to how favorable or unfavorable the situation is.
