Contact Resistance Test

This document provides instructions for testing the contact resistance of electrical equipment connections using a micro ohm meter. The procedure involves preparing the testing equipment, connecting it to the circuit breaker, selecting testing parameters like current limit on the meter, and discharging the equipment after testing. The result table is used to record the contact resistance values for each phase and whether it passes or fails against the equipment specifications.

Objectives
• To obtain the actual value of the contact resistance when the contact is
closed.
• Different connections such as busbar connections, earthing switch
connections and others.
Equipment and Supplies
• Micro Ohm Meter (Contact Resistance
Meter 200A).
• Discharge rod.
• Connection cable.
• Rubber mat.
• Warning notice.
• Earth cable.
Procedure
• 1) Prepare the testing equipment.
• 2) Connect the testing circuit.
• 3) Connect the testing circuit to
the circuit breaker.
• 4) Turn on the testing set (Ensure
that the grounding connection is
connected to the earth source
throughout the testing).
• 5) The figure at the right will be displayed
on the testing equipment screen. The testing
equipment automatically performs self
calibration.
• 6) After a few seconds, the testing
equipment will show the screen as in the
figure at the right .
• 7) Adjust the cursor to the ‘Options’
menu and press the ‘downward’ cursor.
• 8) Press the ‘downward’ cursor and
subsequently choose the ‘Passbands’ menu.
After that, press the ‘Enter’ button.
• 9) Enter the information based on the
specification of the equipment that is to be
tested. The specification of the equipment is
based on the supplier of the equipment.
• 10) Adjust the cursor to the ‘Current’ menu
and press the ‘Enter’ button.
• 11) Pressed the ‘downward’ cursor and
subsequently choose the ‘LIMIT’ menu.
After that, press the ‘Enter’ button.
• 12) Enter the current limit value. For
example, 150 amperes and pressed the ‘Enter’
button twice.
• 13) Presse the ‘Test’ button to commence the
testing operation.
• 14) The reading test will be shown as figure
at the right after a few seconds.
• 15) After completing the test, the circuit
breaker must be discharged by using the
discharge rod.
