FOREST

Q:How many kind s of forests are there? (2)

Productive Forest
These are natural forests and produce fruits, valuable woods such as timer,
high trees and has economic value.
Second type of forest is (Protective forest)
It ‘s man made forest and usually exist near railway lines, parks, along
roads to protect soil to wash away in rain.
Describe the importance of Forest? (3)
marks
Forest are main source of producing Oxygen and the only source of
reducing air pollution.
Importance for Ecology
Forests are home of many different spices, birds, animals and insects if
these are destroyed it would cause extinction of many different types
of beautiful birds, animals and insects which are necessary for the
production of many medicines.
Prevention from green house gases
Nowadays, green house gases, Cabon dioxide and other harmful
emissions causing OZONE LAYER destruction and it would bring
disastrous effects on the climate of earth for example temperature is
increasing and more water vaporization causing heavy rains and floods
while extreme temperature also cause droughts in hot seasons.
Dependence of Industries
Many Industries based in forests for example Pharmaceutics, as many wild
roots are used in medicines, Wood is back bone of Timber and all carpenter
works, paper industry relies on the production of grass and vegetation, &
Tourism Industry etc.
Types of Forest
Alpine Forest
Alpine Forest are found in cold regions like in Pakistan these forest
exist in “Northern Areas”. Trees are high above 60 meter and have
needles instead of leaves so snow can be falls. Trees have wider gapes
between branches
Coniferous Forest
Triangular trees like Christmas trees are called “Coniferous trees” .
These are like Alpine forest exist same cold areas of Northern Pakistan.
These trees are long and has valuable wood so these forests have
commercial value.
Tropical Thorn Forest
These forests exist in deserts of Southern Western Baluchistan, desert
of Thal, Sindh (Thar parkar).
Uses : These forests are uses for grazing and firewood.
Mangroves
Locations of Mangroves in Pakistan
Q: Explain the importance of Mangroves for
coastal areas of Pakistan? (4)
Mangroves are natural forests grow near sea shores and these are
very useful for ecology, environmental purposes
1. These Mangroves prevent tropical cyclones of sea.
These Mangroves are natural habitat of fishes and other marine animals
and their destruction means reduction of fish production.
Cutting of mangroves means Sand of beaches washes away in sea and it
cause land erosion and sea level began to rise ass these mangroves also
absorb water.
Mangroves are homes of various sea birds, seagulls and their cutting
deprived many of these peaceful spices which is the natural beauty of
seas.
Describe the threats to Mangroves (2)
Urbanization is major threat because costal cities develop more
rapidly than land lock cities as these cities have sea ports and
international trade.
Construction of barrages and throwing of sewerage water and
chemicals from factories and industries.
To What extend Forestation is necessary for
the economy of country? (6)
Forestation is important for the economy because it provide wood,
enhances the chances of tourism industry promotion, and habitat for
various animals, birds, and insects.
Some other benefits of forestation
Prevention from Floods as trees absorb water
Prevention from Water logging and salinity thus land is protected
Siltation issue
Tree roots prevent soil to wash away as it bounds the soil and when
there is heavy rain on mountains less silt is flow along the water into
the rivers. This silt is deposited in dams, barrages, hydro electric power
generators and spoil generators .
Demerits of Forests
1. Forests cover fertile lands and these lands can be use for cultivation.
Monitoring of Illegal cutting of trees is difficult work and need finance
for security.
Much of the water is consumed in forests if it is artificial this could be
utilize in fields for agriculture production
• Plantation cost is high and it’s return is s time taken, long term,
