 During summer we would spend our days on the beach.
 We didn’t use to live by the sea.
 My dad used to be a driver.
1.What is “used to“ used for?
2. What is the difference between “used to” and “would”?
We use “used to” to describe :
things that often happened in the past but don’t happen now.
Example: I used to play basketball everyday.

situations that existed in the past but that don’t exist now.
Example: We used to live in a village. Now we live in a city.

2. What is the difference between “used to” and “would”?

We use would also to talk about :

things that often happened in the past but don’t happen now.
‘Would’ is slightly more formal than ‘used to’.
Example: In the 1800s, people would travel on ships.

We don’t use would to talk about past situations or states. We use used to.

Example: My dad used to be a driver, but now he is retired.


NOT My dad would be a driver, but now he is retired.
