SCRIPTURE READING 2 PETER 1 ENTIRE CHAPTER
  I saw the necessity of the messengers, especially, watching and
checking all fanaticism wherever they might see it rise. Satan is
pressing in on every side, and unless we watch for him, and have
our eyes open to his devices and snares, and have on the whole
armor of God, the fiery darts of the wicked will hit us. There are
many precious truths contained in the Word of God, but it is
“present truth” that the flock needs now. I have seen the danger
of the messengers running off from the important points
of present truth, to dwell upon subjects that are not calculated to
unite the flock and sanctify the soul. Satan will here take every
possible advantage to injure the cause.

COMMENTARY ON THE VERSE

 The doctrine asserts that all humans have access to God through Christ, the true high
priest, and thus do not need a priestly mediator. This introduced a democratic
element in the functioning of the church that meant all Christians were equal.

LEVITICUS 23:23-29
 We are now living in the great day of atonement. In the typical service, while the high priest was
making the atonement for Israel, all were required to afflict their souls by repentance of sin and
humiliation before the Lord, lest they be cut off from among the people. In like manner, all who
would have their names retained in the book of life should now, in the few remaining days of their
probation, afflict their souls before God by sorrow for sin and true repentance. There must be deep,
faithful searching of heart. The light, frivolous spirit indulged by so many professed Christians must
be put away. There is earnest warfare before all who would subdue the evil tendencies that strive for
the mastery. The work of preparation is an individual work. We are not saved in groups. The purity
and devotion of one will not offset the want of these qualities in another. Though all nations are to
pass in judgment before God, yet He will examine the case of each individual with as close and
searching scrutiny as if there were not another being upon the earth. Everyone must be tested and
found without spot or wrinkle or any such thing. Solemn are the scenes connected with the closing
work of the atonement. Momentous are the interests involved therein. The judgment is now passing
in the sanctuary above. For many years this work has been in progress. Soon—none know how soon
—it will pass to the cases of the living. In the awful presence of God our lives are to come up in
review. At this time above all others it behooves every soul to heed the Saviour's admonition: “Watch
and pray: for ye know not when the time is.” Mark 13:33.

prophets. In the record of His dealings with the nations were

 TIME FOR THE SRAIGHT TESTIMONY Surely the time has
come for every Seventh-day Adventist to learn about the sins
of
 Laodicea Laodicea -its worldliness, pride, etc.-and to join

those who will cry out against this nauseating mixture of flesh
and spirit. Ministers and members must be willing to risk
criticism in order to preach the Laodicean message. There are
a thousand more pleasant subjects, but the hour is too late to
substitute smooth things. Neither do the sleeping saints need
any more soothing messages. This is the hour for an
awakening.
REAPING THE WHIRLWIND
  If you think John the Baptist was too strong and direct in his
preaching, you may rise up against the kind of messages God is
leading men to proclaim today. Was John too blunt when he
called the king into question for being unlawfully married? If so,
we must be more blunt. Consider this statement:

 “In this fearful time, just before Christ is to come the second time, God’s faithful preachers will
have to bear a still more pointed testimony than was borne by John the Baptist. A responsible,
important work is before them; and those who speak smooth things, God will not
acknowledge as His shepherds. A fearful woe is upon them.” Testimonies, Vol. 1, p. 321. The
Public to Be Deeply Stirred
 All are bound by the most sacred obligations to God to heed the sound philosophy and
genuine experience which He is now giving them in reference to health reform. He designs
that the great subject of health reform shall be agitated, and the public mind deeply stirred to
investigate; for it is impossible for men and women, with all their sinful, health-destroying,
brain-enervating habits, to discern sacred truth, through which they are to be sanctified,
refined, elevated, and made fit for the society of heavenly angels in the kingdom of glory.—

 The fellow laborer of Moses, who was left with the solemn charge of the people in his
absence, heard them uttering complaints that Moses had left them, and expressing a
desire to return to Egypt; yet, through fear of offending the people, he was silent. He
did not stand up boldly for God, but to please the people he made a golden calf. He
seemed to be asleep to the beginning of the evil. When the first rebellious word was
spoken, Aaron might have checked it; but so fearful was he of offending the people
that he apparently united with them and was finally persuaded to make a golden calf
for them to worship. 4T 514.2
 Ministers should be faithful watchmen, seeing the evil and warning the people. Their
dangers must be set before them continually and pressed home upon them. The
exhortation given to Timothy was: “Reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering
and doctrine.” 4T 515.1

 Health Reform an Entering Wedge—The gospel of health has able advocates, but their
work has been made very hard because so many ministers, presidents of conferences,
and others in positions of influence have failed to give the question of health reform its
proper attention. They have not recognized it in its relation to the work of the message
as the right arm of the body. While very little respect has been shown to this
department by many of the people, and by some of the ministers, the Lord has shown
His regard for it by giving it abundant prosperity. When properly conducted,
the health work is an entering wedge, making a way for other truths to reach the heart.
When the third angel's message is received in its fullness, health reform will be given
its place in the councils of the conference, in the work of the church, in the home, at the
table, and in all the household arrangements. Then the right arm will serve and protect
the body.—Testimonies for the Church 6:327 (1900).

do this will find a field of labor anywhere. There will be suffering ones, plenty of them, who will need
help, not only among those of our own faith, but largely among those who know not the truth. The
shortness of time demands an energy that has not been aroused among those who claim to believe the

 MY ADVICE TO US IS TO SEEK GOD AND GET HANDS OF EVERY PIECE OF MEDICAL
MISSIONARY INFORMATION THAT WE CAN, AND PLEAD WITH GOD TO GIVE US A FEW
MORE YEARS!
 True sympathy between man and his fellow men is to be the sign distinguishing those who love and
fear God from those who are unmindful of His law. How great the sympathy that Christ expressed in
coming to this world to give His life a sacrifice for a dying world! His religion led to the doing of
genuine medical missionary work. He was a healing power. “I will have mercy, and not sacrifice,” He
said. This is the test that the great Author of truth used to distinguish between true religion and false.
God wants His medical missionaries to act with the tenderness and compassion that Christ would
show were He in our world.—Medical Ministry, 251.

 , From the first dawn of reason, the human mind should become intelligent in regard to the
physical structure. Here Jehovah has given a specimen of Himself, for man was made in the image
of God. CHILD GUIDANCE 103.2
 How slow men are to understand God's preparation for the day of His power. He works today to
reach hearts in the same way that He worked when Christ was upon this earth. In reading the
Word of God, we see that Christ brought medical missionary work into His ministry. Cannot our
eyes be opened to discern Christ's methods? Cannot we understand the commission He gave to His
disciples and to us? CME 12.2
 The world must have an antidote for sin. As the medical missionary works intelligently to relieve
suffering and save life, hearts are softened. Those who are helped are filled with gratitude. As the
medical missionary works upon the body, God works upon the heart.—Manuscript 58, 1901.

 Sunday-Law Advocates Do Not Realize What They Are Doing
 The Sunday movement is now making its way in darkness. The leaders are concealing the true
issue, and many who unite in the movement do not themselves see whither the undercurrent is
tending.... They are working in blindness. They do not see that if a Protestant government sacrifices
the principles that have made them a free, independent nation, and through legislation brings into
the Constitution principles that will propagate papal falsehood and papal delusion, they are
plunging into the Roman horrors of the Dark Ages.—

 There are many, even of those engaged in this movement for Sunday enforcement, who are blinded
to the results which will follow this action. They do not see that they are striking directly against
religious liberty. There are many who have never understood the claims of the Bible Sabbath and
the false foundation upon which the Sunday institution rests.... LDE 126.1
 Those who are making an effort to change the Constitution and secure a law enforcing Sunday
observance little realize what will be the result. A crisis is just upon us.—

 It is our duty to do all in our power to avert the threatened danger.... A vast responsibility is devolving upon men
and women of prayer throughout the land to petition that God may sweep back this cloud of evil, and give a few

 Those who are now keeping the commandments of God need to bestir themselves that they may obtain the
special help which God alone can give them. They should work more earnestly to delay as long as possible the

 There are many who are at ease, who are, as it were, asleep. They say, “If prophecy has foretold the enforcement
of Sunday observance the law will surely be enacted,” and having come to this conclusion they sit down in a calm
expectation of the event, comforting themselves with the thought that God will protect His people in the day of
trouble. But God will not save us if we make no effort to do the work He has committed to our charge.... LDE

 As faithful watchmen you should see the sword coming and give the warning, that men and women may not
pursue a course through ignorance that they would avoid if they knew the truth.—

OUR WORK TODAY

 CHAPTER ON Strength in Prayer
 Daily beset by temptation, constantly opposed by the leaders of the people, Christ knew that He must
strengthen His humanity by prayer. In order to be a blessing to men, He must commune with God,
pleading for energy, perseverance, and steadfastness. Thus He showed His disciples where His strength lay. Without
this daily communion with God, no human being can gain power for service. Christ alone can direct the thoughts
aright. He alone can give noble aspirations and fashion the character after the divine similitude. If we draw
near to Him in earnest prayer, He will fill our hearts with high and holy purposes, and with deep longings for purity
and righteousness. The dangers thickening around us demand from those who have an experience in
the things of God, a watchful supervision. Those who walk humbly before God, distrustful of their own wisdom, will
realize their danger and will know God's keeping care. CT 323.2
 The power of a higher, purer, nobler life is our great need. The world is watching to see what fruit is borne by
professed Christians. It has a right to look for self-denial and self-sacrifice from those who believe advanced truth. It
is watching, ready to criticize with keenness and severity our words and acts. Everyone who acts a part in
the work of God is weighed in the scales of human discernment. Impressions favorable or unfavorable to Bible
religion are constantly being made on the minds of all with whom we have to do. CT 324.1

worship from the biblical Sabbath (Saturday) to Sunday, and that to try to
argue that the change was made in the Bible is both dishonest and a denial
of Catholic authority. If Protestantism wants to base its teachings only on
the Bible, it should worship on Saturday

 Gay pride or LGBT pride is the positive stance against discrimination and violence
toward lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people to promote their self-
