Organizations
• According to Webster's, an organization is "a body of
persons organized for some specific purpose, as a club,
union or society.“
• A group of persons organized for a particular purpose; an
association.
• Defined as a medium for the efficient movement of
groups of men towards goals to which they aspire
( ultimate goal ).
• Organizations include both societies and associations, but
they can also exist independently.

• A professional association (also called a professional
body, professional organization, or professional
society) is usually a non profit organization seeking to
further a particular profession, the interests of
individuals engaged in that profession, and the public
interest.

Pharmacy organizations
• Pharmacists are represented internationally by the
International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP).
• Pharmacists are represented at the national level by
professional organization such as
o Saudi Pharmaceutical Society (SPS) in KSA,
o Royal Pharmaceutical society in the UK,
o Pharmacy Guild of Australia (PGA),
o Canadian Pharmacist Association (CPhA),
o American Pharmacist Association (APhA),
o American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists
(AAPS) 4
Types of Memberships
• Member :anyone who is currently or has ever
been registered as pharmacist
• Fellow : Member of not less than 12 years
standing and made an outstanding contribution to the
profession
• Associate : anyone who holds a degree in
pharmacy from a recognized institute
• Pharmaceutical Scientist: individual working in the
basic, applied, or the social science impinging on any
medicine related researches.
• Student: anyone studying for degree in pharmacy at a
recognized institute.

FIP
• Is the global federation of national associations of pharmacists
and pharmaceutical scientists
• Is based in The Hague in the Netherlands.
• Is in official relations with the World Health Organization
(WHO).
• Has 126 Member Organizations
• Represents and serves more than three million practitioners and
pharmaceutical scientists around the world.

• FIP's highest organ is the FIP Council where:
o All national pharmaceutical associations (Member
Organisations) and national pharmaceutical scientific
associations (Predominantly Scientific Member
Organisations) are represented and have voting rights.

o Wherever and whenever decision makers discuss any
aspects of medicines on a global level, FIP is at the
table.
• FIP mission:
o Improve global health by advancing pharmacy practice
and science to enable better discovery, development,
access to and safe use of appropriate, cost-effective,
quality medicines worldwide.

SPS
• The Saudi Pharmaceutical Society (SPS) is a non-profit
professional organization which represents all the
pharmacists of Saudi Arabia.

including establishment of :
o The Saudi Board under the umbrella of the Saudi
Commission for Health Specialties.
o The Saudi Clinical Pharmacy
o Hospital Pharmacy Clubs.

Pharmacy Associations in USA
• Joint Commission of Pharmacy Practitioners (JCPP):
o It is a consortium of primary national pharmacy
practitioners organizations.
o Was founded in 1977
o Bring leaders of American pharmacy from all
sectors of the profession together in one table.
o The group works through consensus building, not
motion and votes.

• Founded on 1852
• Its found in Philadelphia
• Represents more than 60,000 practicing pharmacists,

technicians, and others interested in advancing the
profession.
