1-9 Multi-Temp Overview M 04 10 16

This document provides an overview of diagnosing and servicing a multi-temperature refrigeration system. It describes entering service test mode to test components individually, recovering refrigerant during evacuation, and properly charging the system with 14 lbs of R-404A refrigerant. It also outlines common diagnostic procedures like pumpdown tests and checking for issues like low refrigerant, closed solenoid valves, or poor door seals that could lead to inadequate heating or cooling in some zones.

Recovery & Evacuation

• Enter Service Test [VAC]

– Connect battery charger
– Opens all NC solenoids
• Recover refrigerant
• System evacuation
– Achieve 500 to 1000 microns
– Hold below 2000 microns for 5 minutes

Refrigerant Charging

• Evacuated system in [VAC] mode

• Add 14 lb liquid R-404A to high-side
• Run unit all zones in cool (set -20 F)
• Discharge pressure 275 psig
• Add liquid to low-side at 25 psig above
running suction
• Float ball in receiver sight glass

Diagnostic Procedures

• Low Side Service Pumpdown – R09A

• Hot Gas Solenoid Test – R03A
• Liquid Line Solenoid Test – R04A
• Suction Line Solenoid Test – R05A

General Recommendations

Diagnosis

• Turn off remote zones. Evaluate host as

a single-temp
• Use Service Test Mode to operate and
test one zone at a time
– Check heating and cooling
• Use Service Test Mode to replicate
normal operating conditions

SPECTRUM Trailer 9
Diagnosis

• No cooling or heating in one zone

– Closed LLS
– Closed HGS
• Poor cooling in one zone
– Leaking HGS
• General low capacity with all zones
operating
– Low refrigerant charge
SPECTRUM Trailer 10
Diagnosis

• One zone defrosting often or long

– Reduces capacity of other zones
• Long door openings
• Inoperative door switches
• Leaking bulkheads
• Poor loading practices
– Normal system unable to keep up

System Summary
• Total capacity same as single-temp
• Three-way valve replaced by CIS and HGS
• All solenoids are NC except CIS and SLS
• In a heating zone all zone solenoids are
energized while CIS, RTPS & PV cycle based
on discharge pressure
• When any zone is in defrost the other zones
will stop cooling
• The heating evaporator becomes the
condenser for cooling zones
• Solenoid valves hold in one direction
