STEPHEN COVEY (OCTOBER 24, 1932 – JULY 16, 2012)

 was an American educator, author, businessman, and keynote speaker.


 His most popular book is The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
 was born to Stephen Glenn Covey and Irene Louise Richards Covey in Salt Lake City, Utah
 earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Utah
 an MBA from the Harvard Business School (HBS)
 a Doctor of Religious Education from Brigham Young University
 In 1996, Time magazine named him one of the 25 most influential people.
 a professor at the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University
WHAT ARE PRINCIPLES?

PRINCIPLES - are the basic guidelines or foundations within which things must operate.

PRINCIPLES OF TEACHING - are the basic guidelines or foundation that say how teaching should be carried
out and how it must be catered.
1. CREATING AN ACTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

 A classroom must never be monologed in nature.

 Teachers can incorporate activities.

 Teachers can post a trick question or assignment and then discuss it in the class
2. ESTABLISH A RAPPORT BETWEEN THE STUDENTS AND THE TEACHER

 Running a tight ship is not a principle of effective teaching.

 The students must feel at ease and they should feel comfortable.

 They shouldn’t feel as though they are strapped to the chair.


3. FEEDBACK AND COMMUNICATION

 Communication lies at the heart of effective teaching and learning.

 Make the classroom a safe space where every student feels heard and valued.

 Teachers must talk to their students at regular intervals.


4. INCLUSIVITY

 Accepting all kinds of learners and catering to each of them.

 Make a student feel as though they don’t belong in the classroom.

 Make everyone feel welcome


5. HELPING STUDENTS TO MANAGE TIME

 Teach your students the importance of time management

 Help the students and make them believe in themselves.

 How it can be implemented to make them stress-free.


6. MOTIVATION AND INSPIRATION

 Teachers must reaffirm their faith and inspire them to do better.

 Primary concerns of teachers is to shape the future generation.

 When they fail and fall down must be the crux of the concern for teachers
7. ADAPTABILITY AND BETTERMENT

 The education landscape is ever-changing and ever-evolving.

 Be informed about the changes that are happening in the field.

 The teacher shouldn’t stops learning and employ what you can in your classroom.
The general purpose of education is to help humans develop a sense of their intellect,
to create self-worth, and to achieve independence for the future ahead of them…
students must be introduced to three fundamental foundations of 21st-century skills…
1. life and career skills
2. learning and innovation skills
3. media and technology skills
