PATIENT’S
CHART
Patient:
Thoroughly inspect and assess patient’s medical and dental history.
• Allow the patient to sign an informed consent.
• Avoid alcohol and smoking for 24 hours before surgery.
• Take the prescribed medication prior the appointment.
PRE-OP • A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in
the office during the procedure, and drive the patient home.
PREPARATIONS • Perioral skin or tissues may be decontaminated using iodophor solutions
and oral cavity may be prepared by having the patient rinse 0.12%
Chlorhexidine gluconate (Orahex) mouthwash.
Patient may be draped by just exposing the area of the mouth were
procedures are to be done.
• Sterile saline or water should be the only solutions used to irrigate the
surgical field.
Surgical Staff:
Antiseptics are used to prepare the surgical team’s hands and arms before
gloves are worn.
PREPARATIONS • A platform covered with two sterile towels should be used as a tray to hold
the sterile instruments needed for surgery.
Operatory Disinfection:
• Wipe all surfaces with a hospital-grade disinfectant solution and to cover
surfaces with protective shields.

PROCEDURE
• Extra care must be taken to avoid complications.
• Use an ice bag to reduce the swelling. 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off for 24 hours
to help prevent excessive swelling and discomfort.
• Avoid direct exposure to sun/sunlight/heat
• Do not rinse your mouth for 24 hours after treatment.
• Don’t brush the surgical site for the first few days after treatment, but gently wipe it
POST-OP with soft gauze to keep it clean.
INSTRUCTION • Drink plenty of fluids (do not use a straw).
• Avoid smoking 24 hours after the procedure.
• Avoid strenuous activity and do not exercise for at least 3-4 days after surgery.
• If the muscles of the jaw become stiff, use of warm moist heat to the outside of the
face over the spots.
• After the first post-operative day, use a warm salt water rinse following meals for the
first week to flush out particles of food and debris that may lodge in the surgical area.
