The key differences between excavation and trenching are: - Excavation is a broader term that refers to any man-made cut, cavity, or depression in the earth's surface formed by earth removal. It can be any shape. - Trench refers specifically to an excavation where the removed earth forms a long narrow cut or depression in the ground, usually deeper than it is wide. Trenches are typically used for utility lines, foundations, etc. So in summary: - Excavation is a more general term - Trench refers specifically to a narrow, deep cut in the ground An excavation could be any shape, while a trench is long and narrow. • Some hats serve as an insulator

against electrical shocks

• Shields your scalp, face, neck, and

shoulders against splashes, spills, and drips

• Some can be modified so you can add face

spikes that might pierce
ordinary shoes
 Molten metal that might splash
on feet
 Hot or wet surfaces
 Slippery surfaces
 Electrical Hazard

Injuries from Spills and Splashes Liquids such as acids, caustics, and molten metals can spill
into your shoes and boots. These hazardous materials can cause chemical and heat burns.
Note: there are different types of safety shoes (e.g. for chemical “gum boots”, electrical
“electrical boots etc.)
Hazards that affect the entire body can include
temperature extremes, chemical exposure,
radioactive materials, arc flash, infectious materials,
sparks or flames, falls and sharp objects. A variety
of protective clothing, including laboratory coats,
long pants, rubber aprons, coveralls, and
disposable body suits are available for specific work
conditions,
• Working gloves should be worn during material handling, masonry works, carpentry works
etc.
• It will protect you from abrasion, pinch point and dirt.

during cutting operation.
Slips, Trips and Falls
SLIPS!! : to slide along smoothly resulting in a sudden
mishap.

• Weather conditions may

cause the floors to be
wet or the ground to be
muddy.

Excavation
What is the difference between Excavation and
Trenching?

22

Fire Prevention and Protection - IN CASE
OF BIG FIRE
 Report IMMEDIATELY to the HSE Department or through your immediate supervisor and do not
become “PANIC”
 Extinguish if fire is small with fire extinguisher available at the area
 In case of larger and unmanageable fire, evacuate the area and proceed to the designated assembly
points.
 When you hear a fire alert/alarm, stop work and turn off all power units before leaving the area
 Before leaving the work area, make sure that the person next to or around you are aware of the
situation.
 During head-count of personnel, report any missing person for immediate search and rescue.
 Return to work only when the SM and / or HSE Officer has given the ‘all-clear’ signal/instruction in
accordance with emergency preparedness

In lieu with the project SUMEC HSE&S would to inform you about an important
matter pertaining to the safety requirements that need to be followed by all
subcontractors working on the 137 MW AC Calatrava Solar Power Project. “Please see
the following as reference prior Safety Induction and Entering the site premises”..

1. Safe Work Practices: All subcontractors must implement safe work practices
according to industry standards, including but not limited to wearing appropriate
personal protective equipment (PPE).
2. Training and Certification: Subcontractors must ensure that all workers are properly
trained and certified for their relevant tasks. Any worker who lacks the necessary
training or certification may not be permitted to work on the project until they have
completed the required training. (e.g.NC2, Acknowledgment to operate,
3. Regular Safety Inspections: Subcontractors are required to conduct regular safety
inspections on their work areas and equipment to identify and address any potential
hazards promptly. Documentation of these inspections must be made available upon
request.
4. Incident Reporting: In the event of any workplace accident, injury, or near-miss
incident, subcontractors must immediately report the incident to the relevant authorities
5. Medical Requirements: Must completed medical 5 basic medical compliance as per DOLE
specification (e.g. X-ray, Urinalysis, CBC, Medical Fit To work and Drug Test).
6. Heavy Equipment: Subcontractor are required to meet the requirement prior operating on
site, (e.g. Third Party Certificate, Equipment and Operator Insurance, NC2 of the operator).
7. Service Vehicle : Must Submit the photocopy of updated OR/CR, Vehicle Insurance, Driver
Insurance if not included on vehicle, Drivers License).
8. Workers Insurance: Individual or Group Insurance to provide financial protection and
support to employees who suffer work-related injuries or illnesses.

Solar Mounting Structure
Bolts and nuts should be kept in
a well-organized manner to
prevent loss or damage.

This can be done by storing

them in a designated area such
as a toolbox or storage bin with
separate compartments for
different sizes. Additionally,
keeping them clean and free of
rust or corrosion will ensure they
remain in good condition for use.
Regular inventory checks and
restocking when necessary can
also help in maintaining a
complete selection of bolts and
nuts.
