Assessments On Technology Based Learning Material in The Normal Classroom Modality

This document discusses a study that aims to assess technology-based learning materials used by secondary science teachers in the Philippines. The study will survey 30 science teachers across 3 schools to understand the learning competencies, technologies used, challenges faced, and opportunities provided by technology-based learning. The researchers will use a mixed-methods approach including a questionnaire and focus groups. Results will be analyzed using descriptive statistics to identify effective technology-based learning materials that can be developed.

INTRODUCTION
Technology becomes an important medium in terms of learning and teaching in this time of Covid- 19
pandemic. Distance learning is acknowledge to mitigate the impacts of pandemic throughout the globe.
Learning materials incorporated with technology make the student- teacher’s relationship prevents its
closeness and lessen the gap. Assessments through the use of technology based materials contribute a great
help and service through the students and teachers to continue the journey of life-long learning
(Saboowala & Manghirmalani-Mishra, 2020).

The researchers pursued this research because there is no published or known research on technology-
based learning materials in science education, even though there are several theories on the topic. This
study is design to determine what are the learning competencies used by secondary teachers in teaching
science, what technology- based learning resources are used, what challenges and opportunities
encountered, and what technology- based learning materials will be created. By assessing these, learning
will become comprehensible, more convenient, and feasible.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS
1. What are the learning competencies used by the secondary
teacher teaching in science?
2. What are the technologies – based learning resources used in
teaching science?
3. What are challenges and opportunities met in teaching and
learning science in the new normal classroom?
4. Based on the findings of the study, what proposed technology –
based learning materials will
be developed?
RESEARCH
METHODOLOGY
Research Design
This study will use descriptive approach using mixed method. A descriptive
approach will be the appropriate method using quasi statistics in interpreting
the data since the study primarily aims to conduct assessment on the
technologies – based learning materials used by teachers teaching in science in
the new classroom modality.

Research Locale
The study will be conducted in selected schools within Butuan City Division,
namely Agusan National High School, Libertad National High School and
Butuan City Schools of Arts and Trade, The research locales of this study are
mostly considered big schools and top performing basic secondary education
schools in Butuan City Division.
Population and Respondents of
the Study
The study will involve 30 science teachers that are coming
from performing school of Butuan City Division namely, Agusan
National High School, Butuan City School of Arts and Trade, and
Libertad National High School as the participants of the study.

Sampling Design
The researchers will use complete enumeration technique in getting
the maximum sample size. Those teachers that are identified by the
school who are handling synchronous class in teaching science are all
considered as the research participants.
Research Instrument
This study will used self- made research survey questionnaire. This will be the
tool in gathering the data this questionnaire contains of two ( 2 parts) part 1 is on
the quantitative part, questions particular on learning competencies, technology
based learning resources, perceived learning experiences and part 2 are on the
qualitative part asking questions particular on the challenges and opportunities met
and teaching approaches that address the challenges met.

Validation of the Research Instrument

The researcher will seek guidance from MSCRC study consultants as to the alignment
of the research objectives, research tool and research methodology used. Aside from this, still
the researcher will seek advice, suggestions, and corrections from 3 experts that serve as
validator or reviewer of the research tool. Suggestions and comments from the experts will be
incorporated. For face and content validity purposes the research tool will be piloted to 10
science teachers from the private school handling synchronous class.
Data Gathering Procedure
The researchers will write a letter requesting permission to
conduct the study to the District Supervisor’s and Principal’s. After
receiving permission from the principal, the researcher will
personally administer the questionnaire during their onsite 3 days
visit to school as reflected in their school memorandum.

Together with the junior high school teachers teaching science in the new
normal classroom as research participants strictly adhering and abiding to the
IATF guidelines and Health protocols in the normal meeting. Sorting,
tabulating, evaluating and interpreting the data will be done. Furthermore,
focus group discussion for selected representative from year level will also
be used in the gathering data.
Statistical Treatment

The gathered data will be statistically analyzed using percentage and

frequency counts, graphs, tables will used in the presentation of data,
themes will be utilized in presenting the qualitative data.
