Media and Information Languages
• are codes, conventions, formats, symbols and narrative
structures that indicate the meaning of media messages to an
audience.
Codes
• are systems of signs that when put together to create
meaning
• SEMOTICS - is the study of signs.
Types of SIgns
Mandatory Prohibiton Warning

Emergency Danger
MANDATORY SIGNS

• These are signs that are blue colors.

• They give a positive instruction. In other


words they tell you what to do rather than what
not to.
Prohibition Signs
• These are the signs usually in red color.

• They’re commonly used to identify actions that


are either not authorized because they do not
conform to the rules and regulations of a given
area, or that those actions could potentially cause a
risk to the health and safety of individuals.
Warning Signs
• These are the sign in yellow color.
• They are usually triangular in shape and
white background, with a black symbol
or text inside.

• Used to convey a variety of messages, including


warnings, cautions, and general information. It’s
also used to alert drivers and pedestrians of
potential hazards or dangers ahead.
Emergency Signs

• These are usually in green color.


• Emergency signs are designed to indicate the
location of or the direction to an emergency
facility. These signs are available in a variety of
standard sizes and can be manufactured on metal,
aluminium, polypropylene or corflute material.
Danger Signs

• These are in black and red colors.


• are safety signs for warning when a hazard
or a hazardous condition is likely to be life-
threatening. Danger safety signage has many
uses and can warn of many dangerous
situations such as fuel storage, radiation, high
voltage, chemicals, open holes and much
more.
Importance of the SIGNS
• To warn against dangerous and prohibited actions in a certain area.

• To highlight safeguards and procedures that must be followed, or


equipment that must be worn.

• To draw attention to a nearby hazard or potentially dangerous situation.

• To direct people towards essential safety gear and fire safety


equipment
