Nouns
On your white boards, make a list of five nouns based on this picture.
Adjectives
Adjectives are words that describe nouns (naming words).

Noun: Nouns are names of

people, places and things.

Adjective: Adjectives describe


the elephant. Without this, the
reader wouldn’t know the
detail about elephant

On your whiteboards, make a list of five adjectives to describe the nouns you have
written. .
Verbs
Verbs are action words – ‘doing’ words. They often end in –ed/–ing depending on
tense. They show what the noun is ‘doing’.

i.e. The lion roared. Verb: this is what the lion is doing.

Adverbs
Adverbs describe verbs! They add detail to explain how the action is
being ‘done’.

i.e. The lion roared slowly. Adverb: The adverb tells us how
the lion was roaring by describing
the action of its roar and creates a
much clearer image for the reader.

Group Discussion:
In groups you will discuss what you see at night. You may use these
questions to guide you in your discussion. Use as many adjectives as you
can.

 Describe how sky looks like at night. What can you say how the sky
looks different in a desert and in downtown?
 Describe the Moon/ Stars. How is the moon different on different nights?
 How about the birds? Do we see a lot of birds? Where do they go at
night?
 Compare the human activity at day vs. night?

 Now that you already know Noun, Adjective, Verb and Adverb, it’s time to
use them.
We will describe the Night.
Collaborative Task:
Let’s use the Graphic Organizer to compare both. Later on, you can use it
for the final draft.

This graphic organizer will help you organize your thoughts on the topic .
Class Discussion:
Let’s look at the checklist to ensure that your descriptive writing piece contains all
the essential elements. Always look back at the check list as you write and put a
tick on the items included in your writing.
Your Turn!
Your task is to write a description of Night. It doesn't have to describe this picture
but you can use it to help you.

Remember: you are


trying to create a vivid
image for the reader.

Spicy: Using the graphic organizer, you will attempt to create your own creative/
descriptive writing piece about ‘the night’ or any topic of your choice on your copy
books. Try to use your ideas so far to make sure you have used lots of interesting
vocabulary and descriptive language. Aim to write at least 2-3 paragraphs for your
description.
Your Turn!
Hot: You will attempt to write at least 1-2 paragraphs of your own descriptive writing
piece about ‘the night’ on your copy books. You may refer to the graphic organizer and
use your own ideas to make sure you have used lots of interesting vocabulary and
descriptive language.

Mild: You will be given closed passages to continue instead of writing the whole thing
by yourselves.
These words can also be used to help you in your writing composition with constant
guidance from your teacher.

Publishing:
When you complete your work, your teacher will provide
feedback and corrections to your Descriptive Writing
Template.

You may now start publishing the final draft of your


descriptive writing piece using nice meaty paragraphs with
lots of adjectives and figurative language in your English
copybook.
Plenary:
- Presentation of your work to the class.

- Encourage the rest of the class to provide feedback on their peer’s


work.

- Choose the ‘Author of the Week’ among the students who produced
the best fictional writing piece.
