Soot Blower
A soot blower is a system for removing the soot that is
deposited on the furnace tube of a boiler during
Combustion.
Need of soot blower
1. Clean soot off walls and heater surfaces in the
boiler
2. Improve surface heat exchanger
3. Maintain balance between radiation & convection
zone heat exchanger
4. Reduce attemperation spray rates
5. Lower Furnace Exit Gas Temperature
6. Reduce NOx Emission
If NOx increases due to an increase in flame temp as the furnace slag
soot blower system
The soot blower system is arranged as three systems of
different soot blower types.
• The water lance blowers are arranged around the
furnace at 21.388 m, 45.368m and 69.351m
• level. (Total 12, 4in each level)
• The retractable steam soot blowers in the upper boiler
areas with all panel heat exchangers entering from left
and right side wall.
• The RAPH (Regenerative Air Pre-Heater) soot blowers
tangentially running in on cold and hot end of the RAPH
Steam Soot Blower
• To clean the heat exchanger panels of SH1 to 3, RH1
and 2 as well as ECO1 and 2.
• Total 84 soot blowers are installed. 42 of those
blowers are arranged on the left side wall and 42 on
the right side wall. The upper levels and reserve
blowers are equipped with part retractable blower
lances (ECO 1 and 2, RH1).
• The four levels and reserve blowers within higher flue
gas temperatures (RH2, SH1, 2 and SH3) are
equipped with long retractable blowers.
