Concept of Communication - Cika Azzahra

Communication is the exchange of information between two or more parties to achieve mutual understanding. It involves a sender transmitting a message through a channel to a receiver. For communication to be successful, the message must be clearly encoded by the sender and properly decoded by the receiver. There are two main types of communication - mass media which reaches a wide audience, and group media which targets a specific group. Key elements of the communication process include a sender, message, channel, receiver, feedback, and a common frame of reference between parties.

Concept of

Communication
What is communication?
Communication is the way of sending information. It is the
process of exchanging information between two or more
persons to achieve mutual understanding with each other.

Communication involves transmission of verbal and non-

verbal messages. It consists of a sender, a receiver and
channel of communication. In the process of transmitting
messages, the clarity of the message may be interfered or
distorted by what is often referred to as barriers
Communication processes can be classified into two
categories namely (i) mass media and (ii) group media. Mass
media focuses on reaching a wide audience while the group
media reaches a specific group with clearly defined
characteristics. Radio, television and Internet are examples of
mass media channels while drama, storytelling, music and
dance fall under group media.

Process of
Communication
1. Sender
The person who conveys the message to another person is known as the sender. Encoding occurs when a message
sender convert a thought idea or fake into the message composed of symbols pictures or words

2. Message
It is the subject matter of communication which a cender creates in his mind and conveys to the receiver.
A message may consist of facts opinions, information etc. Then the message is communicated to the receiver.

3. Encoding
It will make the receiver understand the message clearly. When the sender translates the message into words,
symbois or some other form, he is using encoding skits. The effectiveness of uncoding depends on different
factors such as skills, attitudes knowledge of both the receiver and the sender
4 Channel of communication
The channel is medium used to send the message to the receiver including a voice, writing, graph, video, internet,
the intranet, television and body language.

5 Receiver

The receiver is the person who receives the message by listening, reading or viewing. He is the person who actually receives the message, understands the same and uses for necessary action. The sonder gives messages and the receiver receive the message given by the sender

6. Decoding

After rongiving the message by the receiver, the receiver must be able to accade the message, which means mentally processing the message into understanding For example, sending a message in a foreign language that is not understood by the receiver will result in decoding failure.

7. Feedback

After understanding the message the receiver gives a response to the sender regarding the message, which is known as feedback. Feedback is a check in the success of communication.
