Introduction
• The Maldives, a stunning archipelago nestled in the Indian Ocean, faces unique environmental
challenges, with its capital city, Malé, at the forefront. The island city is not only known for its
vibrant culture and breathtaking landscapes but also for its vulnerability to flooding,
particularly during the monsoon season. As climate change intensifies, the Maldives has
experienced more frequent and severe rainwater-induced floods, jeopardizing the livelihoods
and safety of its inhabitants.
• In response to this pressing issue, we present a comprehensive capstone project aimed at
developing and implementing a cutting-edge rainwater flood control system for the capital city
of Malé. This project seeks to combine sustainable engineering practices, advanced
technologies, and community engagement to enhance the resilience of the city and mitigate
the adverse impacts of flooding.
• Our project team recognizes the urgent need for a multi-faceted solution that goes beyond
conventional flood management approaches. By harnessing the power of rainwater, we aim to
transform the challenges posed by flooding into opportunities for sustainable development
and environmental stewardship.
Objectives
To redesign the exsisting To control the flood To collect real time data To reuse the waste
drainage system to control system using PLC and analyze the efficiency product in a sustainable
maximize efficiency and arduino way
Problem Statement
The flood control system is a programed and
hardware based project. We are using a PLC and
Arduino for this project. To simplify we are using
plastic sheets and PVC pipes to build a mode of a
road. PLC is used mainly to operate pumps and
Arduino is used to collect data.
Scope of Study
To redesign the exsisting drinage system
To identify factors effecting the efficiency and to find ways to overcome them
