Digestive System

The document summarizes the key parts and functions of the human digestive system. It discusses how William Beaumont discovered the workings of the stomach in the early 19th century. It then outlines the major organs of the digestive system, including the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and anus. It describes the roles of the liver, gallbladder and pancreas in chemical digestion. Finally, it lists some common diseases that can affect the digestive system, such as gastroenteritis, gallstones and celiac disease.

Introduction to digestive system

How and who discovered the working of digestive system?

William Beaumont was an American physician; he was surgeon in US army,

and he also known to be “Father of Gastric and Physiology” he was the first
man to describe the working of Stomach in digestive system. His discoveries
remain important for 2 centuries. Did u know that he also saved a human who
was shot by shotgun in close Range. it was predicted that we was dead, but I
don't know the help of miracle he got recovered

So, lets get to the point What is digestive system and what is Its importance?

So yeah,The Digestive system is most important system in our body without it

we can't digest food. In simple words, The digestive system help the body to
digest some liquid and nutrients that are very healthy for digestion (thanks to
some parts of digestive system) it Is not used for digest only but also used for
Cell growth and growth of the body. Digestion is divided into 2 parts

• Physical digestion: That’s breaks down large pieces into smaller pieces, this
happens physically

• Chemical digestion: that breaks down large molecule into smaller molecule,
this happens naturally
Anatomy of digestive system

Indeed, there are some digestive parts that are important

for digestive system. The detailed parts of digestive
system (will be explained in 9th grade that will be study in
subject of Biology). So, lets get to point if we closely
observe that the stomach, mouth and small intestine are
the most important digestive parts we will gonna discuss
later like Appendix. So, the digestion starts from mouth
and all digestion ends in small intestine people are
confused between large and small intestine this
information is written in next slide when people study
about the large and small intestine then they get how
small intestine is most important digestive part
So, lets talk about the small intestine and large intestine structure so people
think large means “work bigger” and small means “work smaller”, this is very
much incorrect, so large intestine have larger width then intestine because it is
called as “large intestine”. The stomach anatomy is like j- shaped that contain
hydrochloric acid and some enzymes, esophagus looks like pipeline running
through stomach. Gall bladder is a “small pear shaped” organ we will discuss its
function in next slide

Functions of Digestive system

There are some parts of digestive system that are main

Mouth: it chews the pieces into smaller pieces by help of teeth and break down
starch by the help of salivary glands

Esophagus: Pulls down food into stomach with help of peristalsis is used to
gave contraction and relaxation of esophagus muscle

Stomach: This is very important part; this is the part whare the germs or
bacteria are removed with the help of hydrochloric acid it has proteases that
breaks down proteins

Liver: it produces enzyme called bile that convert large droplets into small
droplets
Pancreas: It produces some 2 important enzyme called Carbohydrase That
breaks down carbohydrase and lipase that breaks down fats

Liver: It only produces substance called Bile. Although it also supports

immunity, Digestion and detoxification

Gall bladder: Uses Bile that digest large droplets of fats and break it into
smaller particles

Small intestine: The absorption of foods and nutrition about 70% the digestion
take place

Large intestine :It removes the waste of from the body or converting food into
waste

Anus: last part of digestive system that solid waste leaves the body
Diseases relate to Digestive system

Diseases are only caused when we are overeating or eat something we are
already allergic such as French Fries , We don't know what type of oil are
some restaurant or locals are using to make these fries this can lead to food
poisoning or food allergy. Not only these they are drinks such as energy drinks,
wine and alcohol that makes digestive system weak , however alcohol and wine
does not get digested instead of it , it is directly absorbed into Bloodstreams
that affects kidney and liver, However drinking too much alcohol lead to Mouth
cancer and Kidney Failure and car accident if they drive during alcohol.
Drinking lack of Water also leads to some problem like dehydration this can
lead to digestive problem like Urine problem , kidney failure ( this can cause
sudden bleed to parts of Digestive systems)
They are some Diseases that affects in Digestive system

• Gastroenteritis: This is Rare ,This diseases can be caused by viruses and

requires professional medical treatment this can be treated by anti biotics anti
metrics.

• Gall stones: Very life threating diseases , Need very serious medical treatment
and very common in females if the problem gets serious surgeon will be force to
remove Gal bladder this cause bile leakage and difficulty in digesting foods

• Celiac diseases: This also need urgent medical treatment this damages the small
Intestine and villi if not taking it seriously. It can be treated by excluding the Gluten
(a mixture of two proteins present in cereal grains) for rest of the life
