Introduction :-

 Production planning and control is a pre-defined process of


determining the use of human resource, raw material, machine
etc.
 There are two components forming the PPC System,
Production Planning
Production Control
Production Planning :-

 Production is the conversion of raw materials and given inputs


into final or finished products
 Production planning is the process of determining the methods
of production and manufacturing system in an organization or
industry
 It focuses on WHAT to produce, WHEN to produce and HOW
much to produce in a given TIME
 Main functions of Production Planning are:
Planning Scheduling
Routing Loading
Production Control :-

 Production control is related with monitoring and controlling


the production activity in an organization or industry
 Conducted by various control rooms or specific operational
rooms within a production plant, like: Inventory control,
Quality control and Production control
 Main functions of Planning Control are:
Dispatching Inspection
Follow-up’s Correction
Objectives of PPC System :-

 Optimum utilization of industrial capacity


 Inventory control
 Ensure quality
 Economy (reduction) in production time
Benefits of PPC System :-

 Predicts the requirement of raw materials for manufacturers


 Ensures uninterrupted flow of materials through the production
line
 Decreases operating costs
 Increases productivity
 Helps to reduce the idle time
 Optimum utilization of manufacturing capacity
Limitations of PPC System :-

 Difficult to implement a proper PPC system in a small-scale


organization
 Initial setup cost is very high
 PPC is subjected to external factors like: technological updates,
government policies and regulations
 PPC system is quite time consuming
